I am thinking about doing the Executive Leadership Certificate at ECornell this summer. I would like to find out just exactly how how helpful is it having the Cornell name on a resume when job hunting, even though its a certificate not a degree?
I see you are from Canada, so am I! I have that certificate and it is noticed simply because the school is so close to the border. Many of those that I encounter think I attended the B & M, so that's confusing! I took the 4 course series to add to my MBA background and I must say it was a nice fit. The Certificate does say eCornell on it and then the founding school's name. It may help you out a bit as long as you have something else to compliment it with. I have a couple of questions" I found the course to be one of the best structured online courses I have taken. I kept asking them to take their program to a new level for those of us "serious" students out there that want to spend some time with Cornell. 1) Do you have to purchase books or are all the lessons online? Everything is online, just show up for class and work your way thru the module. There are some short tests, some video presentations and of course there is a reasonable amount of reading before you have to submit research to the class and to the instructor privately. 2) Is it a certificate or certificate of completion as it kind of looks like online? It is a "Certificate of Completion", at the top it says, "Cornell University Johnson Graduate School of Managment and School of Hotel Administration", your name is in the center, and the course title below it. 3) How do you represent it on your resume? Much like a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow You are not going to find any such program at Yale. Harvard, but not Yale.
As far as Yale is concerned I have only taken their interest courses, at AllLearn, http://www.alllearn.org/ These courses are not very academic but they are from the actual schools, Oxford, Stanford and Yale, so you can name drop if that is your game. I find the classmates are brilliant and the interaction is very positive, like most things in life, its what you make of it. The books are included in the cost of the class and the price is right. The Cornell program is much more like a class room atmosphere, I'll do their Finance Program next. On a more serious note, the Harvard Extension Program looks to be very good indeed. I'm also looking at some Stanford programs too. Good Luck in your choices!
Very helpful, but up to a point! eCornell's maxim "Ivy League Excellence, Online Convenience" is quite an apt descriptor of its potential, its reality, its weight. eCornell products (DL certificates, diplomas, even non-credit courses, etc), delivered and obtained via its affiliation with Cornell U, a top-notch, very rigorous and highly and globally respected Ivy League U, may get your foot in many, many doors. What happens next and in subsequent years are entirely up to you ...... depending on your communication/interview skills, work performance, character, integrity, team-work potential, leadership skills, world outlook, etc. eCornell's academic and business linkages and relationships, as reported on its website above, are quite impressive. These can only help you establish and maintain valuable skills, expertise, and real world business contacts. Examples: "Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts and eCornell partner for five-year worldwide learning program; eCornell and ICCD launch Proactive Leadership in Higher Education; Starwood Hotels & Resorts and eCornell announce four-year learning partnership; Air Products partners with eCornell to deliver online training, etc" Please do not underestimate the importance and values of accredited and legitimate certificates, diplomas, professional certifications and licensure, and other non-degree academic and professional achievements. Degrees are not everything! And some particular "degrees" are absolutely worth nothing, or are worth next to nothing! I thought I would supply my 2 cents on E-Cornell certifications. I completed the 6 course Certification in the essentials of Hospitality Management ( they renamed it the Master certification while I was completing it ). In regards to the course requirements and online usage, I give them a A+ as it is a very well thought out curriculum and the presentation and blackboard etc. are nice as well. participation is mandatory and required and i enjoyed sharing my views and experiences with the others. ( I am a GM for a full-service hotel). My company sees Cornell as a tremendous plus to my credentials and I feel it added alot to both my skillset and marketablity, not that i plan on seeking another company anytime soon. I am seeking to complete my MBA through California Coast University next month and the Cornell certificate in my field along with the MBA will be a good compliment to each other. Would I consider completing a certificate from Cornell if I was receiving a MBA from a top Ivy league school? I still would if the certificate was in relation to a particular key area that the general MBA did not elaborate on. Hope my info also helped in some accord.

Yale University "certificate" programs? None, (DL) that I am aware of. In October 2000, Yale, Oxford, Princeton and Stanford universities each provided $3 million to launch a "distance learning venture." The result is here: . There are only two options: (i) continuing education credits, and (ii) enrichment. Course lengths range from 1 week minicourses to 10+ weeks courses. I'm in month 2 of the 6 month Human Resources certificate program. It is very well done (if a bit pricey!), I'm learning a lot. I will finish in late Sep and will try the PHR at that time.
