    Hi Gang!

I'm looking at taking some CLEP exams but couldn't find info on where to take them....

I'm located in Nova Scotia and there are 9 CLEP exams I'm looking at to help me with my degree.

Also, does anyone have good sites for study guides?
Here are the exams I am planning on taking:

    ENG 101
    Math 110 or Math 101
    CIS 101
    MLNG 208 & 209
    PSY 100
SOC ( Intro to SOC )
    ECFI 201 & 202

    Thanks!

    BM

Check these sites out, usuall your local community college is your best bet. These links will take you straight to California. However, I believe you can check out any state, city, etc.

    Take care,

    Abner :)

According to this it looks like your closest Canadian center is in Toronto.

Look here if a test center in Maine would work better.

    Thanks for the replies!

Toronto is about a 17 hour drive from me; Maine about 7 - 8.. both not feasable.

Now I wonder... how does one go about finding out how to become a CLEP testing site? The Community college where I took my CompTIA Certs to testing for many other Certs as well.. I'm sure they would go for it, or even one of the local Universities...

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    Thanks!

Yep.. I contacted them.. there are no testing centers in Atlantic Canada...

But since I'm resourceful when it comes to saving me time and money I just contacted a Community College which is a testing center for many other things to see if they would be interested in checking into it...

As luck would have it, they are and they will contact collegeboard ( Janet Swandol who is the Assoc. Dir. for CLEP ) to see if they can be setup to be a test site....

X your fingers, toes and whatever else you can cross for me :)

don't mean to discourage you but I think you will find it won't be that easy to have a new CLEP site set up where you want.
I am having to travel by plane and spend expensive nights in hotels in different countries in Europe to take my CLEP and DANTES exams. I was unable to have a Clep center set up in Spain where I live, although there are plenty of American universities.
I think you might as well start accepting the idea that an 8 hour drive is not that bad...

Well, I checked out collegeboard.org and low and behold a University about 1 hr from me is on their list - I called them today and am awaiting to hear back but from what it looks like I can take CLEP exams there...

    Have you checked out
http://apps.collegeboard.com/search/index.jsp and searched the Universities in your area?

Hmmm... I'm curious as to where you found that. I used the testing center locator at collegeboard.com in my original response. Maybe you are closer to another province. Dunno. Oh, well, I'm glad that all worked out for you. Good luck!

I put in the local universities - including Acadia.. Acadia is the only University in Nova Scotia that shows up so it must be...

    unless I'm reading it wrong?

In the official list of test centers, for Canada it only shows Langley, Vancouver and Toronto...think you better start pumping some gas into your automobile

Nova Scotia to Maine? The Cat Saves The Day!

Or so they claim. Sounds like a fun cruise in fair weather. But less expensive in early and late season.

Looks like Acadia will accept CLEP's, but it doesn't look like they are a testing center. Frankly, when comparing an eight hour drive to take an exam vs a 10 week course, I don't see how eight hours isn't feasible. I've spent almost that amount of time just trying to get on to one of our "Patriot-Act-enhanced-whoopdy-doo-secure" military bases here in Washington State to take a DSST.

    Cost of the Cat: ~$300
    Gas / lodging: $200-300
    meals: $50

..Cost of the courses I'm taking: $122/crhr for $366... I'll spend a little more time and save a lot of $...

I have a local college looking into the CLEP situation - I'll advise once I hear back ( I suspect end of next week ).

    military has slight advantage.....

I had a guy whom e-mailed me from the carribean and says that he waits until he comes to Florida to take a bunch of them. But for ECEs, there are larger amounts of local test centers. Prometric has a fairly large global reach.

If you can somehow get sponsored onto a US military installation nearby, perhaps the base educational office there will be willing to proctor a test for you. Of course it wouldn't be free for civilians, but that's not the point. Most base test centers have NOT yet migrated to the computer-based cleps, so you'd only be able to take the 14 most popular ones:

    http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/clep/12cleptitles.html

    Request special proctoring arrangements here:
    http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/clep/reg.html

If you are deciding on taking the 'travel to the states or nearest testing center' route, try to study up for as many as you can. Then take like 1 week off and take as many as you can in that week. Try to ensure the testing center you will visit has a saturday/sunday opening.

And remember try to take ones that you CANNOT take on paper/pencil first (if those test centers are available). This way, you can maximize your time at home taking pencil/paper exams under the special proctoring arrangements.

    Hope this helps :)

PS: also check into YOUR country's military installations. See if they proctor these exams and see if you can get someone to sponsor you on.
