Martial Arts Doctor not really a 'Doctor' at all?

I was reading through many of the responses and they vary I see. But I have to give my opinion on this discussion. I am currently a doctoral candidate and also a martial artist. Who trained this 'Dr. T' or what style he studies is of really no matter to me. But what I take issue with is some people being 'laid back' with responses as to whether this gentleman holds a doctorate degree or not. I have worked extremely hard for every one of my educational degrees. I am currently a doctoral candidate and it is not something I take lightly. And I don't think anyone in this forum should either. I have studied communications for nearly three years in post-graduate studies. I am very close to my doctorate, but the fact remains - 'I am not a doctor'. At least not yet. That title has to be earned with blood, sweat, & tears; sometimes many many tears. So as a martial artist I am bothered by the claim if this gentleman is not a doctor. But as an academic; I would be extremely bothered if he doesn't hold a legitimate doctorate degree. And from the research I have done I am leaning towards the fact that he probably doesn't. This is just one of the reasons people outside of the martial arts arena don't take us seriously. I just hope that this guy holds a legitimate academic doctorate degree. I really do.

Mr. Hargis im very familiar with the ISOK as im on the email chat group and get the 20 or so emails daily that are sent out. I think the ISOK is doing some good things, even if I dont agree with all of them. I must of mis-understood your other posting and was going by your earlier one which if you re-read you would see that you were saying anything not affiliated with the JKF was not real. How is the Shotokai doing these days?

    Take care

Nope, I never said it was wrong to hold membership in non-Japanese groups--I think what I said was that ranks from government sanctioned Japanese federations are the gold standard (like RA in academics) of "accreditation" in karate.

Shotokai is, with Egami and Hironishi and Yanagisawa dead, pretty much in a shambles.
I think it is about six dojos--not much.

It always happend unforunately when the chief passes away, everyone wants to be the boss and things fall apart. None of the major organizations when this has happened has managed to hold things together.
