The May issue has quite a decent article by Michael Crowley, who writes their "That's Outrageous" feature. Covers quite a lot of ground, including the first printed report (other than my book) on James Kirk (imprisoned for LaSalle) running his next university from his prison cell in Texas.

The Digest also has a website where readers can comment on articles, should anyone be so moved:

"Recently, doctors, teachers, and even government officials have been caught lying about their degrees."

Wow, even government officials? And here I thought that was the last bastion of integrity....

    Dr. Bear,

Do you know of any other resources where I might find a copy of this article? I'd be interested to read it, but can't get RD over here . . . and I don't want to pay for a full subscription online to read the one article.

    Cheers,
    Adrienne

Adrienne -- if you can send me a fax number, I'll be glad to fax you a copy (when I get one; the faxed copy I was sent is very murky and hard to read).

Read the artical, what's the Government Accountability Office?

Other than some typos like the above, it was rather bland, and nothing new. Usually they name names but htis was very generic.

    Not impressed.

    Mike,

The Government Accountability Office (GAO) is the new name for the former General Accounting Office. It is an agency of the federal government that is headed by the Comptroller General and is responsible for auditing and evaluating the financial accounts of federal agencies. The GAO also assesses the results of government programs and produces many reports for Congress detailing what's working and what's not throughout the government bureaucracy.

I have dealt several times with the GAO in the past, I guess I missed the renaming of that paper tiger of Congress.
