    Points on French Private universities

I think that this forum is progressing very smoothly and intelligently and everybody seems to understand easch other. It is like Switzerland where we lived together with 4 National Languages. (Anyhow I make joks of the "Swisstoto")

I have called again the French consulate in Geneva (they hate me now) and I was told again that contrary what the nice Friend of Mr. Pilot said there is no more " institution reconnue par le ministere de l'education national ou autre" recognized by the state or other . There are public and private entitities as I said before "au nom de l'Etat" or not. This reconaissaance by the State however was valid until 2000.

I think we can just forget Sorbon for a moment and look at the bigger picture of private universities in France .

    1) Private Universities in France exists, are legal if registered and must follow certain special rules. Such as filling special papers with the Education Nationale, and the Ministry of Justice, and the Security such as Fire department. They are also investigated initially by the renseignements généraux (your FBI?) to see if they are not sects or terrorists. It is according to Jean impossible to open an Institution of Higher Education "comme ça". i.e. "on the fly"

    2) Private Universities have a control from the Education Nationale through the regional "Academie" (Contrary, I think, to the US ones with only private accreditation).

For exemple they should be authorized when they start any course by the regional Recteur of the Académie representing the Education Nationale. They, in the proces,s should provide a documentation on ther courses and the professors.

Private universities should provide their course programs to the Education Nationale, and give to the Ministry of education the diplomas of their professors. He cited the article of the French Law but I did not remember it.(Do you want me guys to be barred from France and ask him again LOL?)

    3) They have the right to issue certain Diplômas (but not the baccalauréat).

    4) They must renew the procedure for the courses authorisal every year.,

    5) People outside the European Community (like me) can not teach or open French universities without a special approval of the "Academical Counsel of the education Nationale" which is rarely given.

    6) At any moment those private universities should be open to any control by the French Education Nationale.

For him, who told me he called Paris, Robert de Sorbon very clever (malin) and followed carefully the rules and is a legal institution. They went to the limit with their VAE but it is not illegal.

It seems that from my point of view those government supervisions and controls on French private universities are less than in my Geneva "Republic" (the only on Switzerland) and much less than in Ticino (Tessin).

What about such Government control in the United States ? I do not know and will be interestead to hear it.

Speaking of Evaluators as mentioned previously, Sorbon cites five US Evaluators who recognize their diplomas. Is it true ?

Regards from the "Jet d'Eau" . I will be out next week Thursday.

Guess why? Military period where I will guard the Military Prison (jail) with no or few minor convicts.

    Exiting is not it ?

    Respectfully,
    Marc-Christian

As far as evaluators, well none of the evaluators mentioned on their web site ( privet compnies in US with membership that anyone can get for payment) are NACES member.

Most of Universities and government agencies, licensing boards work with NACES member credential evaluation services in USA.

Now if WES, ECE, and other respected agency evaluate them as NA or RA equivalent then it will have value.
There are professionals that specialize in knowing countries educational system and they follow the latest developements.

AUAP with ACE membership has value, I know their reports are accepted by local universities were I reside.
But wasnt AUAP involved with running this school?

So the value of evaluation from non NACES member service is
    unknown.

  3. Please Withhold Judgment! Let's Give Alain Michal and Sorbon a Chance!

I would like to apologize to Alain Michal for being critical of Sorbon. The basis of my original judgment was because I had received an email from Alain Michal that had Jean Prade's website, http://www.auap.com in the header. Someone in support of their position pointed out AUAP may have been assisting them with the administration of their programs. And isn't that what other unnamed professionals did with Columbia Pacific University. The point I wish to mention here is, that if they have the necessary documents supporting their existence on file, then who are we to judge. Unless you live and work in France, how can we really understand the VAE system. I say, give them a chance, until their government steps in an says otherwise. Thank you. And Have a Great Day!

Get out the violins and hankies, boys.

Ray, Ray, Ray, Ray, Ray. Your list of CCU grads was interesting and helpful. Your reinstatement at CCU was a nice piece of news. The other entities you get emotional about are consistently less-thans. Nobody is trashing CCU. Nobody. The dissless DBA was pretty silly, but it's gone. Since you get mad when I bring up the less-thans you have assiduously promoted one after another, I won't list them. But I do have a question for you.

Why not just enjoy your newfound status at the newly accredited CCU, and quit trying to create an aura of "the cruel world jes' don' unnerstand" about less-thans, let alone CCU?

Also, your relativist "who are we to judge" works both ways. If we can't criticize (who are we to judge) you can't applaud (who are we to judge). He who lives by postmodernism will perish by postmodernism.

  5. Uncle Janko,

I like CCU thank you and enjoy the coursework. Regarding Sorbon, I am not even going to go there, because you aren't worth it! I have my opinion, you have yours. Case closed!

    Ecrasez l'infame

My self-esteem is crushed. Oh, cruel Ray!

Still, relativism can't confer reality, not even on Sore Buns, the evanescent M. Michel, the elusive M. Prade, the nonexistent Anjouanais (or was it Comoran?) accreditation, the canard* that la Francophonie is an accreditation agency, or the attempt to elide the difference under French law between a real university and a business.

Those, dear hearts, are the facts about the unreality of Sore Buns. My opinion of Sore Buns, which mean old Ray so callously trod underfoot, is unprintable.

    *Hit's one o' them French wurds, y'all.

In which the Mad Priest is be-Mused, or, from Sunshine to Moonshine.

Oh cruel Ray of that benighted Sun
which orient in Comoros yet Sorbon
would fain still feign to us a real School
and take the naive Newbie for a fool,
which shone upon the Voyage to Iraq
(so brief it must have been, for Ray is back)
and lit the instant search for Doctorate
besought in vain from Knightsbridge at cut rate,
and Yorker, yea, and many another Mill,
yet warms the supple morals of a Shill:
o Orb of Darkness making night of noon,
o pardon! if we show to thee our Moon.
