I went to college straight out of HS, flunked out.... I went straight to community school after that and flunked out, then back to college and flunked out then to cpmmunity school and flunked out. When I was 25 I met this beautiful lady, and moved in with me and I realized that pizza delivery and carpet cleaning was not the answer for her, and I better do something. So, at 24 I started a certificate program at the local community college in computer science. After a bout two semesters I found out the program hadn't been approved by the state yet. So I went looking for another school. I ended up at ITT I finished my first degree (AAS) by 30. Near the end of my degree I decided I should get a BS so I packed up the dog, the cat, my wife and all of our belongings and moved to Orlando Florida for a year. By the time is was 31 I had my BS degree. All I need to do now, is figure out how to pay for my wife to finish her degree and we are all set.

I was a National Merit Scholar in high school, earned my BSc and MSc in my early 20's from a bricks and mortar university, earned several insurance designations (CPCU, ARM, CPHRM) in my early to late 30's by independent study, and finished up (for now) with a MBA five years ago at age 39 by distance learning. I currently work in upper-level administration for a large medical clinic.

thanks for the insight into your lives...

interesting to hear a slight taste of what people are doing out there " On their trip around the sun " ( as jimmy buffett would say)........

I worked with engineers, accountants, even Phd's in my corporate life.

One thing I do wish.........they could give some of them a degree in people skills and common sense.

All of you should be proud to keep pushing your limits and keep adding lines to that resume.

    AA - 19
    BA (1) - 32
    BA (2) - 33
    MS - 36 (hopefully)

Work in the hospitality industry right now, low speed database management. I guess you could call it an IT job, but I don't. Pretty slow and lame.

I started college right after HS at the age of 17. I struggled through my BS (6 years and 1 college transfer).

I made up for all of that nonsense with my MS. For me, I think I had to prove to myself that my poor undergraduate performance was due to a lack of maturity rather than intelligence. :D

I presently work for the government in the operations research career field as a cost analyst. I don’t have anyone working for me and I like it that way! After completing my MS, at the age of 29, I was a commander in the Army and I had 230 soldiers under me…never again!!!

I earned my BA from a bricks-and-mortar in 1986, at the age of 24. For the next six years, I had various jobs: I worked at a bookstore, a temp agency, and at a bank, and I also painted houses freelance. The combination of working at the bank and turning 30 was depressing enough (at the time) to inspire me to wonder what I was going to do with the rest of my life. I heard that a university in another state was offering a Master's degree in Library and Information Science via distance education; I applied, was accepted, and completed the program. I subsequently earned a Specialist's degree in Library Science from the same school, also at a distance.

It took me two years after graduation to find full-time work in my field, but I finally ended up in charge of library services to off-campus students at a small college. I also teach courses in research methods and strategies. I really love what I do, and don't regret going back to school for a moment.

Started a BA in 1980 while in the Army. Never finished that BA while I was in the Army.

Retired from the Army in 1998 and got an appointment as Head Women's Swimming Coach at an NCAA-II college. Kept that job for 2 years but couldn't advance or get real classroom time without an MA/MS.

At 40 years old, I enrolled full time at a state B&M to finish a BA (traditional day program) and to get into the MSc in Instructional Technology. Will collect a DL BSc very soon on the way to the BA from this state B&M and have been provisionally accepted to the MSc already. Will follow with a PhD in C&I (Ed Tech).

Timeline is to be complete with all by 2010. One BSc will be complete by winter '05 (25 years to completion) and the other BA in spring '06 (26 years to completion). I will have well over 200 hours of undergraduate credit. The MSc should be complete by end of summer '07.

Present position: US Army (ret), University Marching Band Operations Manager

Goal: Post-secondary music faculty, music technology lab director.
