    Hi,

has anyone got experience with applying at Univ of Illinois @ Springfield for MIS prog?

I did apply for coming Spring term on time and am still waiting to hear anything from them. The calsses are scheduled to start from 10th January.

Other then that if someone is currently studying there. I would like to know a little insight abt:

    - Average workload/course (how many hrs/week)
    - Level of toughness of the courses
    - What GRE/GMAT score u had to get accepted
    - Quality of content and communication with the Profs/Staff

Thanx for anyone replying. It sure wíll be a great help for me....

    regards

    UIS

I can tell you that I applied for a MEd at UIS and I was dissapointed at how the application process was handled. Even though I called several times and I was told "not too worry" .... eventually I was told that they had no record of my application at all! I had to re-apply and start the process all over. By the time I was accepted, I was in the Walden U. program.

I think the problems they experience at UIS may be typical of schools jumping into the online environment. They do not seem to have all the pieces in place. Regardless, I was out $40 for the application fee ;(

Hi -- I was accepted into the UIS-MIS program last summer and am currently enrolled in my second semester. As a working professional in pursuit of a second graduate degree I'm taking two courses per semester.

After evaluating my experiences during the Fall 2004 semester, here are a few of my observations:
    a. I must say that the program has exceeded my expectations.
    b. The professors were very engaging & presented the course materials in a very challenging format. The use of their Blackboard for group assignments and discussion board postings was very interactive with weekly assignment due dates and regular feedback. Online course material quizzes were also available to help prep for mid-term & final exams that did not count towards your grades. Syllabus varied slightly with each course as one would expect but did require you to keep up with chapter reading assignments and postings or research paper / case study assignments.
    c. The required textbooks were very current (2004 copyright dates) and easy to order with their online bookstore partnership arrangements with eFollets.
    d. Since they are part of the b-school, the program tends to use virtual group assignments and case studies to reinforce learning objectives. Coordinating a few group assignments was easier than I thought thru the use of their Blackboard collaboration and plain email exchanges. (group work ranged from 3-5 students)
    e. There were more research paper assignments than I anticipated in both of the core courses I completed last semester (MIS-513 - Mgmt Info Sys; and MIS-502 Technical Foundations course which did allow for an intro to Java programming in the 2nd half of the course.)
    f. There were variances in the administration of the mid-term and final exams depending upon the instructor (one course had a timed take home or research paper option for a final; the other course required a proctored mid-term & final).
    g. On average, with the two-course workload, I spent about 12-18 hours per week between the chapter/case study readings and time on-line posting discussion thread responses and other assignments. Since they have a B&M program you do benefit from the mid-semester or holiday breaks.
    h. The e-tuition rates are very reasonable for a RA DL program (averaging about $660 per course.
    i. I believe the minimum GMAT score for admission is around 450 but you should verify that with the graduate school admissions office.

Thus far, I am certainly very impressed and satisfied with the UIS-MIS program depth, rigor and curriculum. BTW, their core and adjunct faculty members have impressive credentials and are all Ph.D.'s.

email me at [email protected] if you have any specific questions that I can help you with in the future. Good Luck.
