For a texas resident, West Texas A&M offer an online MBA for around $4k.

    This seems absurdly cheap.....

Has anyone looked into this institution or have any experience of studying there?

You may want to also look at the Texas A&M - Commerce online MBA program. It's very inexpensive for Texas residents as well, and is AACSB accredited. The cost per credit is a little bit higher than West Texas A&M, but the program requires fewer credits, so it balances out. I guess it depends upon which program you like better and whether or not you care about AACSB vs. ACBSP accreditation.

Thanks Gary, I looked at the Commerce website, I like the fact you don’t need a GMAT to get in!
However, I thought both programs were 30 credit hours, so I am not sure how you thought Commerce was less. Did you mean that it can be completed faster? Maybe I missed something on the site.

One thing I liked about West Texas was that I could study for a MBA with a minor/concentration - for example in Healthcare – but I couldn’t find any such option with Commerce.

AACSB accreditation isn’t really an issue for me – as long as my Degree is recognized by employers as being bona fide.

My main focus is on cost, time of completion and recognition.

I decided I wanted to go for a Texas school rather than a Uni of Phoenix-type offering, but as I am not a Texas resident for over a year yet – I need to wait a few more months before applying to qualify for the resident tuition fees, but I’d rather wait a few months and pay less than half I would have to pay with other institutions.

I'm not enrolled in a degree program there, but I am taking an advanced foreign language grammar course at WTAMU via correspondence. I'm very satisfied. It's a pretty tough course with lots of assignments, but nothing worthwhile is easy, and I really am learning the material.

The Commerce program is 0-18 credits background/leveling and 30 credits core and elective, whereas the WTAMU program is 0-21 credits background/leveling and 36 credits core and elective. You can get a minor from Commerce, but since there are only two electives in the program you end up needing to take a couple of extra courses to pick up the minor, so in that case both programs would probably be about the same number of credits. They don't appear to have a minor in Healthcare, so if that's important to you then the WTAMU program would be better for you.

The Commerce program works really well for me because they are letting me satisfy all of the background requirements through CLEP and DANTES exams, and they are accepting two courses from my MS in transfer as electives, so I just need to take the 8 core courses in order to earn an AACSB MBA! I want to have the option to teach, so AACSB accreditation is important to me. I could have gotten an AACSB MBA locally from St. Mary's with the same number of courses, but then I'd have to travel to attend class and it would cost three times as much.

    Gary,

I'm also in the online MBA program at TAMU-C. I will graduate in May 2005. I transferred in 9 credits and since my undergrad degree is in business, I was able to waive all background courses.

I also waived the GMAT since my undergrad GPA was high. It really is a sweet deal.

I'm taking BA 578, BA 595, & MGT 527 in the Spring, maybe I'll see you in class!

Out of curiosity, how are each class conducted? How many tests/exams/assignments in each class? Are the exams proctored? How is each class assessed.

    Thanks.

I've been very happy with my courses so far. Each professor has discretion as to how the course will be structured. Here are links to syllabi in some of the main MBA courses. I have taken 5 courses and have not had a proctored exam in any of them yet.

Yes. The time has ranged from 2 hours to 4 hours depending on the course, but are open-book.
