Has anyone around here tried to get credit from one of the Big Three (TESC, COSC, Excelsior) for certifications such as MCSE, CCNA, etc.? I'm interested in acceptability as part of a portfolio or in any other manner.

    Thanks!

As of two or three months ago Charter Oak still used Excelsior's standard. I got twelve credit-hours for my MCSE on NT 4.0, just as I would have at Excelsior.

Thanks to both of you. That's very helpful. For anyone wishing to take a look at TESC's certifications page, it is located here:

    Credit for Certifications by Excelsior

I was awarded about 15 credits from Excelsior for the Microsoft exams I had passed. Being awarded these credits was a big incentive to me towards completing my degree. I wish Oracle and other companies would submit their exams for evaluation so others could benefit from this.

Re: Credit for Certifications by Excelsior

I agree. It makes no sense not to do so. You could certainly use it as an advertising tool:

"Not only do you earn this valuable certification, but you are eligible for 9 (or whatever) units of college credit from Excelsior College."

For those without a degree, and there are still quite a few in the computer industry, I would think that would be appealing.

Last year (before enrolling at Excelsior) I earned the A+, Network+ and Server+ certifications. Excelsior awarded me six credits towards my BSLS. The Server+ counted towards my Applied Professional depth in computers (my other depth is history).

Along with some upper level Arts & Sciences credit I still need, I also needed two elective credits in the Applied Professional category. With Excelsior's approval, I took the Security+ exam today and passed. That takes care of those two credits.

Nothing like the feeling of killing two birds with one stone.
