    Hi everyone,

Has anyone managed to actually enroll in UNISA (South African Correspondence College)? If so, what's the secret? Their website is totally confusing and my emails come back as undeliverable. Since this is the only place I can afford, I would appreciate some help. A step by step guide would be great!

    Thank you very much

    What are you wanting?

What level of education are you wanting? There are other SA universities which provide better service. I think we have students from DIT, Pretoria, Zululand, TSA among others on here.

    Hi DTech,

Thank you for answering my post. I've been without a computer for a few weeks, so I didn't see your reply until today. I'm looking to obtain a B.A. in Math (I already have one in English and hope most of the courses will transfer--unfortunately, I'm on a tight budget). I would appreciate any further info you can provide.

    Thank you,

    Z

Contact Dr. Michael Esselen of International Academic Correspondence Inc. He will assist you with all your questions.
I'm about to begin my 3rd year as a doctoral candidate with UNISA. The professors are excellent.

    Roysavia,
I don't mean to hijack the thread but this is about UNISA!
I'am also thinking of a UNISA doctorate program in history.
Can you give me the "skinny" on your experiences thus far? Do you have any idea if history will entail course work and research of just research...any help is great!
Hopefully this fall I can climb aboard UNISA
    Best, Gavin

    Gavin,
So far the experience has been positive. My disseration supervisor responds quickly to my questions. He's guided me through the entire process to date - including the design of the proposal and the revisions of my first three chapters.
I'm not familiar with the History Department at UNISA, but I am certain that the program requirements are identical to those of the departments of sociology, economics and psychology. There is no course work in the DLitt et Phil program. You are required to write and successfully defend (by teleconferencing) an 80,000 word dissertation on an approved topic.
The doctoral programs at UNISA are much like those of British Universities (dissertation only). The only down side to this program is motivation. If you are not self directed and motivated, you will have a tough time finishing your dissertation.
    regards

    Major at UNISA?

    roysilva,

I am wondering what your major is at UNISA.

I appreciate your comments on the boards. It has been helpful for me. I have a strong thesis idea for my dissertation, am a self-starter, and now need to find the right PhD program. At UNISA it looks like (Health) Psychology would work for me (also looking at Health Science programs).

    thanks,

    Matt Rogers

    Hi,
My major is Sociology. I decided to go this route because the other schools that I'm interested in are a bit too expensive (Union Institute, Walden).

One catch. If you are not a self directed learner, you will have a very difficult time finishing the program. Don't expect to be "spoon fed". Your thesis supervisor will lay out the ground rules and from then on it will be up to you to comply with his/her expectations.

    regards,

    Thanks!

Roy - sorry for changing your name on my last post:eek: .

This is very helpful information. I think UNISA is a strong candidate, so with the knowledge the icai is the way to go I can stop worrying about the red tape issue.

    Thanks again!

    Matt
