    Latest update:

Financial aid is squared away. Their FinAid deptartment has been spectacular thus far.

GCU automatically enrolls you in your courses, 1 every 8 weeks so I am good to go on the first course, Managerial Communications. They are also providing me with free books due to my militiary status which was a pleasant surprise.

So far, I am happy with the university. Let's see how the education goes! It appears that going for-profit has (in the interim) encouraged them to be very accomodating while they build a student base.

Well, as promised, GCU provided me with $200 towards my books (which came in at a light $160). Books arrived within 2 days of ordering. They waive the first $200 towards books if you have a DD-214 or are active duty.

I also received an email from them stating that my 3rd course's tuition is waived (saving another $1020) as a "thank you."

Class #1 starts via Blackboard on Jan 6th.

Well I am in week 2 of class 1 of the GCU online MBA. It's going great. The class is terrific and the instructor is one of the best I have ever had, DL or B&M. I am glad I chose GCU thus far...

I see that Alice Cooper was awarded an honorary doctorate... Juxtaposing Alice's picture just below the school's mission is a good example of dissonance induction on the web...

    UPDATE

    Well,
I am in week 7 of 8 in my first DL MBA course at Grand Canyon. So far the experience has been great. The instructor is communicative, helpful and I am actually learning. I will complete this first course with an A (96.8% to be exact).

The second course is already setup and the professor has made some very brief introductions but is not looking for us to respond until March 10 when the class starts.

So far I have zero complains with GCU.

    cool.

At this point, I still have no complaints. I got an A in my first MBA course, learned me some stuff and have moved on to course #2. So far so good.

They said I won't get my username until a day before my class starts. That's making me nervous- I feel a little unprepared

I actually had problems with my user name and didn't get in until the 2nd or 3rd day you will be fine. What class are you taking?
Your user name should be your 1st initial and your last name. And the pass word is the last 6 letters of your social security number. You might try it and get in. Even though my class didn't start until today, I signed in on Monday and a few of use started posting then,

    Hi!
I'll have to try that later, thanks!
    I'm taking SPE 529.

Is that the class you're in now?

I just finished that class. If Deborah is teaching it she is fantastic. Very helpful and patient. I got 100 points out of 100 points so you will do fine.

Good, I hope I have her then. Is the class boring? The required text for that class seems really boring..lol

I couldn't get in with that login.... I guess I'll just have to wait.

How many people ended up being in your class? Were there a lot of papers? Any tests? Powerpoint presentations?

We didn't have a text for the class. I think there were about 20 people in the class. Most of them are in my next class too and we got to be good friends with each other
There were weekly assignments but nothing to overwhelming. I had a hard time putting together a portfolio because I don't have the experience that some of the teachers had.
But that was it. I think you have to read the discussion board 4 times a week and do the assignments. They are do Wednesday night by midnight and most of the time I would start them Wednesday afternoon and complete them in an hour or 2.

That sounds good. How did you get graded on putting together a portfolio??
