    Hi,

Does Troy allows you to take CLEP exams and other courses (DL and in class) after you have enrolled with them ? I know you can take courses now and transfer them in but what if you enrol with them and yet be able to take courses elsewhere. In this case do you have to take permission from the college or can you just take courses at other institutions ?

This is my first term at Troy University and I too am enrolled in the BSCS program. I don't think they put such a restriction on taking classes as a transient student while enrolled but they do have a maximum course load that you can take per term or semester including classes at other universities. However, if these other classes are self-paced correspondence then I don't see a conflict you should be able to manage the work load with no problem. I'm currently taking 3 classes this term (COBOL, Networking, Prog. Methods) and taking (College Algebra, Spanish, Precalculus) at UND but these are self-pace and I have a year to complete them. Obviously, when it comes to due dates and assignments TSU courses have priority. I also took a couple of CLEPs while enrolled and the credits were sent and accepted by TSU. BTW, I'm enrolled at TSU Fort Benning but taking my Comp Sci courses through TSUFL different regions but they both follow the same guidelines.

What classes are you currently taking? What has been your experience so far?

One more thing...if you are paying for the classes out of pocket then you probably won't need any approval from financial aid. Check with your advisor or call admission to be sure the class(es) you are taking will transfer in and count towards your degree program.

thanks for your reply. I am not enrolled with TSU yet but am planning to. So wanted to know what are their policies towards taking classes at other institutions. I believe it will be ok If I enrol in other classes while with TSU.

    Gentlemen,

It sounds you (gentlemen) try to find more details about Troy University program policies. I had done most of the research about this program.

This is my third term at Troy University, and I have taken the following classes:
    University Orientation
    Programming Method
    Cobol

and currently taking Advanced C/C++ Programming Language, and Functional Charactersistic of Digital Computer. The majority of computer classes don't require proctored exam, but it is limited time on the exam via BlackBoard System.

Troy University policies: You are allowed to transfer up to 90 college credits; however they only accept 60 credits from non-traditional method. And 30 upper level credits has to be earned through Troy University - University College. What does they mean the term "non-traditional?" It means that all credits are earned through Military training, CLEP, DANTES, TECEP, ECE and etc. All credit earns through distance courses at College or University to be considered "traditional method." They do allow you grant more credits from outside after the enrollment, just update your transcript.

By the way, they do accept military member for Military Science as minor.

Good Luck,.....If you need more info, please let me know.

BTW, I am glad that I enrolled into Troy University...I wish I did a year earlier.

    dequece,

Ooppss. Sorry! My appology! Well, your username sounds like a guy name, beside the majority of Computer Science major are male. lol

Professor Eric Copeland does not give lot of work. All you need just take the final exam, and complete three programming projects....

Professor Carden gives lot of works in Advanced C/C+ Programming Language class.

Remember Programming project worth more points than any others.

    This is my schedule:
Term 3: Information Processing, Databse Processing, and Data communication

Term 4: Systems Analysis & Design, Control Programs, and Programming C# Language.

Hopefully I am going to graduate in October 2005.

    Good Luck!

    Hey Tekman

I will be graduating from Troy in Dec 2005 right after you.

I have taken Information Processing already pretty straight forward expanding on C++ and I am taking Database Communications now...Database Communications is really straight forward, if you already Computer Networking you will have no problems.

I will be taking Database Processing in Term 3, and I will be taking Systems Analysis and Design for Business in Term 4.

    Look me up.

I found this on Troy site.

    "Correspondence Course Credit
Troy offers no correspondence courses. Correspondence courses taken through other accredited sources which are applicable to Troy undergraduate programs may be accepted as non-traditional credit"

It seems they treate DL courses as non-traditional courses ? This will really hinder ones ability to get onto their degree program. Is this correct ? Also anyone knows how many maximum credits they allow to be transferred. From their site it seems 90 credits can be transferred but I got an email from them that they will accept 60 credits. dont know why all this discrepency.
Any help from anyone here in clarifying this would be helpful so I can ask them the right questions.

I questioned that too.... I ask my advisor and he explained to me that when they say 'non-traditional correspondence courses' they are referring to correspondence courses taken through non RA institutions such as, education direct or pcdi. If you take classes at a RA University or RA College (UND, LSU, GSU etc..)then that doesn't apply to non-traditional. If it did then TSU's online classes would be non-traditional because they are DL and not oncampus.
