    Re: ODA is a joke

    1. Glad you concede that since it is a fact in the U.S.

    2. On what grounds? I have seen nothing that shows the ODA violated the U.S. Constitution in any way what so ever except for hot air from pro-degree mill posters. K-W is clearly a business, not a university. They are built around making the largest profit with the least amount of work and are willing to violate any educational standards to do so. They move from state to state to state to escape regulation. They grant credit w/o meaningful evaluation. The classes they offer are a joke.

    3. I, on the other hand, see him as a person of character. I doubt it is easy putting up with all garbage degree mills throw at officials working to limit their activites, but he continues the good fight. Good for him!

The Florida law was struck down as unconstitutional because it did not recognize the possibility that an unaccredited degree could be completely legitimate and bona fide. There was no mechanism defined for someone with a bona fide unaccredited degree to legally use their degree. This is not the case with the Oregon law. The ODA has identified a number of unaccredited degrees that are legal within Oregon.

Former Berne University Provost Wins Lawsuit

I verified that Chuck Knisley did win a significant settlement against Berne University for over $46,000 a few weeks ago in New Hampshire Superior Court. Berne University did not appeal this suit settlement. A New Hampshire Superior Court lien has been placed on the "business incorporation" known as Berne University if payment is not made quickly. Does this mean that Dr. Knisley will end up owning all or a portion of Berne University? What a kick that would be! Anyone can access the court documents I located in Concord, New Hampshire Superior Court to verify my information.

According to documents gathered in St. Kitts and shipped to the US recently, the same individuals still own Berne University even though Berne University claims a "new group" owns and manages Berne University. Berne University uses a PA address since exiting New Hampshire November 1, 2003. As of last week Berne University also uses a Virginia phone number now located on their web site as well. My understanding is that Berne University is now using Virginia as an address also as they are applying to SACS for "US accrediatation. " According to "sources", representatives of Berne University did attend an Atlanta session of SACS last week and are in the beginning stages of "US accreditation once again?" Come on! Berne has used this ploy with students (as a recruitment tool) since 1998 and has never even filed an application with an US Accreditation agency of any sort except for an aborted DETC application under Dr. Knisley's leadership.

Anyone can access the court documents I located in Concord, New Hampshire. And anyone can contact SACS in regard to Berne University's attempts to now go through them for US accreditation.

I do not know if Dr. Knisley will be "talking" to the feds as Alan suggests, but we do know Dr. Knisley is very concerned about his former students.

While every university is a business, not every business is a university.

A business is primarily interested in creating a profit.

A University is interested in upholding educational standards, increasing the body of knowledge, and helping students in the educational process.

K-W is only interested in creating a profit at any cost. They are willing to assume the appearance of a university and other activities, but even a cursory investigation shows these activities to be a fraud.

Fraud is a strong word, I suggest you be careful with that one Dave.

Of course, making wild claims are easy from a position of anonymity.;)

I personally thought that "cursory investigation" was by far the most potentially vulnerable part of Dave's statement rather than the conclusion.

As soon as a person learns they aren't accredited, huge warning sounds should go off. When a person learns they operate out of California, but are illegal in both California, Oregon and potentially other States, fraud should definately be the word. When people learn their evaluation is non-existent, that seals the analysis. Any one ready for college level study should be able to connect the dots. :D

    I agree

I for one am happy to know that universities almost never appeal NCAA sanctions because the millions of dollars in television revenue is secondary to "upholding educational standards"

Thank God no college or university has ever polluted educational standards for the sake of an athlete or school competition. We all know athletes are pushed everyday to "increase the body of knowledge" in their chosen major.

Every university, public and private, in my neck of the woods will gladly reduce tuition rates, student fees, and the cost of books in the name of "helping students in the educational process".

I live in Kansas, surrounded by the likes of K-State, Nebraska, KU, OU, OSU, Wichita State. Football, Baseball, Basketball rule, and my guess, for one reason, millions and millions of dollars in revenue to the schools and the Big 12.

While all of these schools are fine institutions, to say they are not a business driven by a desire to make profit is wrong. Thay may deliver an education in the process, but they won't do it for free!

Let's not counter the absurb with the absurb.

Hi michael I understand your point that all schools have to be aware of the bottom line, and in that way they are like a business. If you truly think ALL they are concerned about is the dollar, I believe you are mistaken. If that were true they wouldn't spend that all important dollar on programs. They would conduct research. They wouldn't hire knowledgable professors.

Businesses like K-W on the other hand, spend ONLY what they have to. Who needs to bother actually evaluating applications? Just let the counselor/sales person stamp approved and fill in any numbers needed. Why bother meeting regulations when you can move from state to state? It IS so much cheaper!

I agree with you 100%, I certainly wasn't attempting to defend KW, only make the point that most universities are as concerned about profit as they are educating.
