Dr Maranto has replied with unfailing courtesy to your strident posts.

It is statistically unusual for three different Vietnamese posters all to have "western" first names.

I wonder whether you are really three different people. If you are, I wonder whether this isn't a coordinated team effort.

I do want to be sensitive to your culture, so let me ask this in the gracious way you would ask it.

Prove to me and to all comers to our total satisfaction with complete documentation in whatever form we happen to demand at any given moment that you are three separate people, not working together, and thought of as nice young folks by your respective grandmothers. You have 24 hours. Snap to it!

    uncle janko;

    are you representing Akamai University???

I respect Mr Tony repuatation and his replies. I also appreciate his effort in getting the Akamai name clear from any unauthorized misleading intepretation.

I think Akamai and Mr Tony must thanks us for bringing this isue up else they are still not aware of what happening here. If what we brought up is not true, why Akamai has to make a report to Hawaii Consumer Protection Department?

Please don't divert the focus as we are discussing about violation of chapter 446E and Mr Tony keeps asking me to give us evidence.

My post is to remind Akamai and Mr Tony that their instruction is not followed and this can land them in deeper trouble if they don't react quicky. I have good intention since Mr Tony has shown his sincerity and frankness.

Who are you to question my identity??? R u one of the american army that killed our countryman in VN war???? R u working for Akamai university?? R u also running a diploma mill in USA??

I think Mr Le is going too far over the top with Uncle Janko.

However, whatever the intentions of Mr Le and the others listed as from Vietnam ( and having 3 English names for 3 people is not statistically unusual in that part of the world), it does highlight a very real problem that Western schools, especially the unaccredited ones, face in that side of the world (and maybe other parts!).

Akamai must face the fact that their agent is possibly misleading students by giving false information or stretching the truth to the limit- probably both. Akamai, and other schools that are keen about preserving their reputation need to seriously consider whether overseas associations are the way to go.

Mr Maranto, play a tough game with this one. Ultimately the university does have control over the issuance of diplomas. But then again, affiliated schools have been known to print the diploma of their associate!

Just an update… we had requested that the UNDP webmaster take down the AU posts and post an apology sent by our president. The webmaster was very helpful and responsive and took down 2 identical posts, however, by my search (and the web-site is a bit difficult to search thoroughly) there appear to be 2 others at different URLs that escaped notice (the board has monthly archives). I have respectfully asked the webmaster if he would take these down as well and perform a search for any other posts referencing AU. I have asked him to make it a priority. Obviously, the management of the UNDP webpage is a bit out of our hands, so we have to rely on the timely response of the webmaster (which I’m sure will happen).

To Mr. Le and others, I have said it before and I’ll say it again, I do thank you for pointing out these issues. You are correct, that if this hadn’t been raised, it most likely would have escaped our attention for some time. Thank you.

Regarding Uncle Janko, I can confirm that he is not an employee of Akamai. He has however, been around this discussion board for a long time and is well respected for his thoughts and insights (and wit). His questions are his own and you may choose to answer them or ignore them as you see fit, however, I am in agreement with Adam Smith in that your personal criticism of him is over the top. I believe that we can have a discussion without bringing personal attacks into the mix. You clearly have some passionate views about the Vietnam War, but I don’t think that anything we have been discussing on this board has much to do with perceived Yankee imperialism or Vietnam Era activities (and for the record, before you ask, I was too young to serve in Vietnam).

Just a note, I will be out of town for several days next week, so I won’t be posting for a while. If anyone has any pressing comments or observations on this matter or its follow up, I would encourage you to send an e-mail directly to the university.

    Thanks to all,
    Tony

You called it Unk. It's not that the new accounts all use Western names that got me, it's that they all showed up at the same time with the same complaints about the same organization.

    HAWAII LAW : CHAPTER 446E

    (b) Where promotional material for an unaccredited institution consists of an advertisement in a periodical published by a person or entity that is not affiliated with the unaccredited institution, the disclosure required in subsection (a) may be abbreviated to state as follows: NOT ACCREDITED BY AN AGENCY RECOGNIZED BY THE U.S. SECRETARY OF EDUCATION. The disclosure required under this subsection shall be made in a type size as large as or larger than any other text in the advertisement.

Violation again, Akamai appears together with accredited universities:

    http://programs.gradschools.com/distance/social_psychology.html

These are information available electronically.....what about those flyers, leaflet and catalogues distributed around town violating Hawaii Law. What about those students enrolled at Akamai due to false claims of Akamai agents in Vietnam?

UNDP post appears in July 2004, does it means each day is considered as ONE VIOLATION? Could an apology be sufficient for cheating many students??

It is such an inhumane attitude by certain member on board towards Asians and it is a shame a person being gifted to be there in USA start to assume the rest of the world is barbarian.

Vietnam as a whole is still quite poor and its per capita income is about $275 which is about $1,000, or less than 5% of that in the U.S. The Vietnamese government defined poverty as earnings of less than 50,000 dong/month (~US $4.50) in rural areas and 70,000 dong/month (~US $6.40) in the cities. With such low income students strive for a better education and ready to pay US$5000 probably their life savings and how cruel it is when they are cheated by universities like Akamai…..

What would you people feel if this happen to your family members, your bothers, sisters or sons, daughters???

NOTE I AM NOT RELATED IN ANYWAY TO MR. LEE AND I BROUGHT A GENUINE POINT FOR DISCUSSION, MEANT TO GET ATTENTION AND NOT BOMBARDMENT

    MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALL

I just did a short half hour BDGS (Bill Dayson Google Search) on Akamai University, also looking at their official website, they appear to me that it is likely a sincere academic institution.

Anyone know why it is not listed in Bears' Guide?

A Conversation with Ho Chi Minh

    My dear "Uncle" Ho:

How are things in the, uh, hot place? That's nice. Listen, Uncle Ho, I'm worried about the younger generation. You fought for, what, thirty years to get rid of the idiotic French--a most estimable sentiment that we Americans now share--and impose a brutal Communist dictatorship. Then years and years to get rid of us. You understood that revolutions aren't like instant coffee. They take time. You understood that crushing a people's spirit requires a soulless glacially-moving bureaucracy, not a helpful person doing his best to rectify things over the internet. Oh, yes, the internet. Sometime I'll explain how it works. Remember how easy it was to pop folks in re-education camps for writing letters? That's trickier now. Things move faster.

But you know what, Uncle Ho? For some people, or maybe it's just for one person (hard to tell--the lockstep unanimity of thought would have made your old pal Kim Il Sung jump for joy) things just don't move fast enough. Like you, Uncle, she/he/it/they don't tolerate any backtalk. But these young whippersnappers haven't got that old dialectical materialist patience that made you so much fun to have around.

According to Miss Candace, she/he/they/it can dish it out, replete with lies, abuse, sob stories, and the endless theme of evil American vs Vietnamese schlemiel, but let anybody object to any of this cascade of crap and it's "bombardment," oops, I meant "BOMBARDMENT."

(Oh, and if they are really independent posters, why is there such seamless integration of response between all of them or within her/him/itself, as the case may be. When posters are really independent of each other, stuff isn't synchronized. For example, Dr Maranto, who is a much nicer person than I am, replies to them with dignified, quiet patience--and quick action--while they badger him. I, on the other hand, find their bad manners and bigotry offensive, and their righteous squealing when anyone objects to be a display of self-pity that would have made the Viet Cong puke with laughter.)

Right, Uncle? Remember when Le Duc Tho reduced the Paris Peace Talks to quibbles over the furniture? OK, OK, quit laughing. Get a grip, comrade. Right. OK, it is kinda funny. No, I'm not sure whether later on Ron Brown was paid off by your guys or not. Look at this, willya?

I am choked with tears at the picture of some Vietnamese peasant (oops, I mean vanguard worker of people's paradise) riffling through some glossy MBA-type mag, spotting an Akamai ad, and sending his dong to Hawaii.

What's wrong with this picture? Instead of sending his dong to Hawaii, if our young five-year-planner wants a university education, why doesn't he plant his ass in a Vietnamese university classroom chair? If the Americans are all evil bastards--especially them Jap types--why is our young fresh-faced aging Youth Pioneer dealing with any American university, Akamai or anybody else?

If the problem is that some Vietnamese middleman may or may not have done something wrong, Dr Maranto has already taken steps to get the problem resolved. So why isn't it perfect and all magicky as of instantly, pronto?!? Our sponstaneously coordinating totally independent Vietnamese posters/poster have/has been lulled into complacency by the supreme efficiency of Communism. In addition to being thieves, war criminals, and all-round shits, with Akamai University the evil epicenter of it all, we capitalist running pig-dog paper tigers are a dawdling, shambling, manana-rama bunch.

Gee, thanks, Uncle Ho. I thought you'd appreciate that little rhetorical touch there. Learn from the master, after all.

Uncle, their/her/its typed screaming and peremptory demands just crack me up. But I'm a baaad man because I made fun of your rudeness and took exception to your maltreatment of a good man. Now he/she has begun lying about me, calling me a degree mill operator.

Why of course Comrade Ho Chi Minh. I wish you would talk to them.

I have some advice for you/y'all, my little commissars:
    Cool Thy Jets.
    Hold Thy Horses.
    Clutch Thy Dong.
Lie and hector all you want--it worked for me. But puhleeeze quit that wretched whining and snarling. You/you all remind me of Madame Nhu. I didn't whine. (Well, not after Versailles.) General Giap didn't whine. You punks whine. What
    is this world coming to?

Thank you for that sage advice, dear Uncle Ho. I'll try to be more patient with abusive whiny young'uns, too. It's just that something smells fishy and it ain't fish sauce. Oh oh. I hear hell's bells ringing. I think that means you have to go back now. Have a nice day (under the circumstances). See you on judgment day--from a distance.

    Your fellow Uncle,

Thanks Mr Tony for his appreciation and admit that if not because of us bringing up this matter, he and the akamai may still not aware and will further landed in bib trouble.

Not all Americans are bad guy, at least many of those I met before are good.

I also believe Mr Tony that Uncle Junko is not their employee and is speaking on his own. I als take his advise that I can choose not to respond to him.

So, I am going to tell Uncle Junko the last time, I will definately see you in the judgement day not by distance but by your side.

After a great deal of thinking I thought of joining a special school where people go to learn to be rude. The students in this school are taught secret rudeness techniques, which some people in this forum already know about. Before graduating, all the students are given a test. If they pass, they get their diplomas. But if they fail, they become valued members of society.
Successful rude people like Uncle Janko have a habit of making improper demands. They accuse us without proof; they ask for more and give nothing in return. They criticize; they manipulate; they make personal remarks; and they act like we owe them explanations.
To handle these people appropriately, we all need to be familiar with their tactics. Rude people count on us to be ignorant of their ways, so that they can trick us into believing that we're wrong and they're right; they know that's the only way they can defeat us.

    My dearest Candace:

I have been so discourteous to you. Your dear uncle (me, not Ho) simply should have asked if you were shilling for some goofball outfit called mcm which is linked to the less-than-wonderful Southern Pacific University, long since brought to the attention of our mutual friend Mr Jeffrey Brunton.
How terribly inconsiderate of me! Please accept my apologies. Have some more tuica, child. Would you like a cookie with that? A nice macaroon?
I just feel awful that I was so self-centred and didn't ask what you were doing. Do write if you get work.

    Your insensitive old uncle,

    Janko

P.S. I even found a nice link in your language:

Unk, you are contradicting your own self where you previously quoted as there is one person using three western names....good fishing but you are making fool of yourself. I do believe that you have had a good IQ but with your recent posts suggest otherwise.

Anyway you provided me with a good story line...

"Southern Pacific University, Ex-hawaiian-carribean mill that was sued and kicked out from Hawaii by Mr. Brunton attacking Hawaiian based Akamai mill whose president is Mr. Douglas Capogrossi , the ex-president of International University of Professional Studies (IUPS) who was also sued by state of Hawaii and after get sued started Akamai University. Uncle Janko is the commander-in-chief of Akamai ground forces and launching an attack on SPU forces led by Candice and associates.....bla bla... "

    On a serious note for ALL point to ponder;

    a) One cannot be such a fool to use their own names if attacking someone???

    b) If I were Candice and selling degree from Southern Pacific University, why would I then be posting negative information about unaccredited universities and warning people of Vietnam to be careful of ex or current Hawaiian based universities??

    c) All posting I made were public information available on world wide web and it Akamai is running a clean operation they need not to worry anything, yet Mr. Maranto admitted irregularities taking place and put the blame on AGENTS.

    d) Corrective Actions were immediately taken from the President of Akamai proves that something was wrong and needed immediate rectification.
