I saw Cambridge State U. on the list and thought that the use of this diploma mill degree was waning due to the all the publicity it has received.

I did a quick search and found an award winning community college health science teacher with a Cambridge State Ph.D. http://www.stanly.cc.nc.us/AH/RCT.htm

A mechanical engineer teaching in Broward with a BA from Cambridge State http://www.broward.edu/bcc_catalog/2005/Organization.pdf

and there were a few others I also observed.

Anyway, the Cambridge State saga continues....

    bullet,

Yes diploma mills are a problem in this country (USA). Other countries also have problems with diploma mills. Yes I'd guess that the USA probably has more degree mills per capita than most other countries. The UK may have a larger number of degree mills per capita than the USA even though and they operate their degree granting authority and accreditation in a manner similar to what you propose. So I don't believe your proposal is the panecea that you believe.

    Have fun,

    None are Universities

    Gus,

I went to read up on these "universities"; they are NOT Universities; they seem to be Consulting Agencies.

    Yes

While I will not say any university is a diploma mill (could get sued) but there is NO EXCUSE for a operation that can make $25 million each year to not seek Government Licensure (accreditation is not the correct word used in south america).

Forget the $25 million, as long as they can make a profit there is no excuse to not look for Licensure even if that means getting licensure from Brasil (no offense).

I dont know much about the english system for degree mills, I have read something about ROYAL CHARTER and such.

I need to correct myself, the FEDERAL SUPERIOR BOARD OF EDUCATION may not be the cure all evils, but it could help.

Then probably the ones who get into the programs can not say so easy that they did not know. All you would have to do is call the Federal SUPERIOR BOARD of EDUCATION.

But a person clarified that the Federal Law cannot do this, so no wonder it has not been done.
