Hello, I am new to D/L and have found that with my schedule AIU offers the program I need to succeed. Does anyone know of a website that offers ranks of D/L schools? Also, has anyone had any problems with AIU-California? AIU is well-known and offers the Healthcare Mgmt. degree I need so I'm leaning toward their school unless someone can suggest another?

    Thanx in advance............

    mlykii,

I am a current MBA student at AIU Online (concentarion in Management), so I may be able to offer you some insight. First, AIU-California is a land based campus, AIU Online is headquarted from Hoffman Estates, IL. Anyway, as an AIU student, I recommend AIU Online if you are okay with the seemingly high tuition. I say seemingly high because AIU's degree programs are so fast. For example, the tuition for the MBA program is approx $28,000. If you factor in that you are getting a 2-year degree in only 10 months, the price breakdown looks a lot better. Also, because you can finish the degree so quickly, you are able to use the privileges that come with it faster. This means that you can put MBA on your resume sooner, and this may be able to land you either a promotion or a better job sooner.

From an academic standpoint, AIU is good overall. For me, my experience with the AIU curriculum and the instructors has been positive. Also, their online class interface is very friendly. My only complaints are that there is a bit of grade inflation and the group projects. The grade inflation is not too rampant, but it certainly does exist. This can be frustruating if you are working your butt off for an "A" on a group project, and the slug of the group also gets an "A".

I found that AIU's administration is good overall. There has been only one bad experience where I had to deal with an idiot working in the accounts department. Fortunately, I was able to easily go above his head and get the situation quickly resolved. For the most part, I found that AIU's administration is more than willing to work with student. I think because of AIU's for-profit nature, they are more responsive to students than many traditional colleges & universities.

To sum it all up, I have been happy with my experience at AIU. Also, I have never had any of the prospective employers I had job interviews for question the validity of my degree. In fact, all of the employers (and the employer for which I eventually accepted a position) seemed more interested in my work experience, knowledge, and ability. All they seemed to care about the degree was whether or not it was properly accredited.

Keep in mind this is my personal experience. Before you ultimately decide, I recommend you look at the thread Codekiller sent and the other threads about AIU in the forum's archives. Doing this will give you a more complete picture of AIU Online.

Whatver you decide, I wish you the best of luck

I can offer some insight - I went to, and graduated from AIU - Los Angeles. I found the education at AIU fine, and the degree has been very useful to me. I went on to a graduate program at Norwich University, did a certificate program at Cornell, and I am now in the MBA program at ITESO-Regis University. I was also accepted into Texas A&M College Station MBA, and Northwestern MPPA program, so the credits and degree from AIU are recognized and accepted.

I am not sure about the online programs, since I was land based. That being said, I know that the online programs are very popular, but the feel of the alumni is that the school has been really going down hill since they sold it to CEC.

Again, I am not sure of the quality of the online programs, but if they are based on the Brick and Mortar programs you should be fine. Hope this helps.

I heard of lot bad stuffs about AIU (American Intercontinental University) in the past. For example, at least two times the institution was placed under probation. The school also had specified "ONLINE" in the transcript; besides, the tuition is extremely expensive. My former co-worker who earned his Associate degree in Business Administration, he was not informed about the student loan (finance). He ended up with $40,000.00 student loan when he received his Associate degree. So, I would recommend to avoid AIU, but the choice is your. There are so many schools offer Master of Science in Healthcare Management/Administration via distance learning. For example, Cal State Long offer Master of Science in Health Care Administration, and University of Scranton offers Master of Science in Healthcare Management.
