Trying to find information on Veterinary medicine degree (Dr.) in California. DL or not.

Also, how does accreditation work, is there a professional accreditation agency?

    Thanks in advance.

Just a guess but I think you can rule out a DL vet degree. Something about self taught surgery.

Han, there are only two schools in California - University of California, Davis and the new veterinary college at Western University of Health Sciences (Pomona, California).

Western started as an osteopathic medical college and has grown - Nursing, Pharmacy, Phy Asst etc. There was some press when it got its initial accreditation from the AVMA that it was the first vet coll to be approved since 1984. It admitted its first class in 2003.

Oregon State University and Washington State University also have DVM programs.

Don't know anything about DL programs in veterinary medicine.

There is an accreditor - AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association). Accreditiation takes some time, Western is in just provisional and they started in 1998.

I don't forsee DL in the vet field - just as DL doesn't fit into medicine, architecture and other professions that require significant lab facilities and face to face time with faculty.

    Regards - Andy
