I find it disheartening that your boss would do this without speaking to you. I would contact your HR department and find out what the policy is concerning these matters. Perhaps you can meet with HR and your boss all together so she could explain her actions. If you would for a large corporation, then you will have more luck as individual managers are not as important. If you work for a small company, then things might be a little tougher.

I tell my son that sometimes you have to put up with jerks in your life who do things just because they can. You can either make this an issue, or move on. I find that most managers such as the one described are self-destructing anyway (they do the same crap to others and usually end up with no support from their subordinates)

    Just my two..

Thanks to everyone for your input. I have decided to use discretion in this case and try and keep things smoothed over. Making too big an issue of this could result in making things more unpleasant. Her behavior has been erratic of late (from happy to mean) & no I do not think that she has bi-polar disorder. Other folks have noticed her actions and asked if she is okay or just been suprised at what someone called "mean" behavior.

People know when to stay away from her (unless she comes looking for them). She seems to delight (based on things she has said to me) in saying things (sometimes cutting) to people that cause them to be upset (her attitude is that it is the truth so what). Often done in front of others. What is funny is that she is one of the greatest promoters of developing leadership qualities in her supervisors and she feels she possesses these along with great insight. She will tell people that she has an uncanny ability to figure people out and that do not worry because she will be figuring you out as well. You just cannot suggest that she is wrong.

To answer someones question this is not a private company and she supervises supervisors so is high up. At the moment I am trying to be respectful, honest ..........& looking for another job.

    North,
When you do find another job, be sure that you point out her lack of respect & competence in your resignation letter. It wouldn't hurt to also send a copy to her boss.
Sometimes people like her need to be put in her place....and sometimes buring bridges is a necessary evil.

    North,

Is anyone up the chain from your boss ex-military? It might be interesting to see what they have to say about the incident.
