I have taken 3 CLEP exams in the past year and passed all of them. I now want to take the DANTES statistics exam, but this one is freaking me out. I am not a math nut, if you know what I mean. The past 2 wks I have been going over Statistics for Dummies and also the CLiff notes for statistics. Not too bad, but when I attempt any practice quizzes, it all becomes gibberish to me.

One, has anyone used Instacert Academy for their prep...any comments on them, good or bad?

Any suggestions for any other resources I could use?

Anyone passed this exam? Just wondering if I have a chance to pass the one-time exam or if I should think about taking an on-line statistics course somehow?

Thanks in advance for any info,
    Kim

Statistics is very difficult for someone who is not good with math....trust me, I know. :D

Unless you specifically need stats for your degree program, I'd try a lower-level CLEP or DANTES math exam to satisfy your math requirement. If you do need stats, you might consider a local community college course. The support of a classroom environment and in-person teacher is a big help.

    Good luck!

    Hey Bruce,

Thanks for the quick response! I have had high school level algebra, albeit 10+ years ago, lol, and more recently (5 yrs) ago had an intermed college level algebra course. I guess it is really that I don't particularly care for the math courses, say as opposed to the sciences.

I plan on applying to the nursing program (AAS RN) at my local community college, and so, yes I do need a Principles of Statistics course. They do offer this course, but right now I need an online course which they do not have.

Are there lower level CLEP or DANTES statistics exams? I don't remember seeing any...thought they were just more general mathematics type exams?

    This is an excellent option...

    Kim,

I just completed MATH135, Intro to Statistics, offered by Colorado Community Colleges Online. CCC is a consortium of seven (I think) community colleges that share a common interface and administration.

I found MATH135 to be an excellent Statistics primer. The material was presented in eight two-week sessions, with an exam at the end of each. The exams are challenging, but you have the opportunity to take each twice, and you are able to take them at you convenience, with no proctor required.

I earned an A in the course, which pleased me greatly, considering my last exposure to higher-level math was in high school 22 years ago. :)

Visit Colorado Community Colleges Online to take a look. Good luck!

    Regards,

    Tony

Yes, they are lower-level math exams, I didn't know that you specifically needed stats.

You could always prep yourself as best as possible, then take the DANTES exam. If you don't pass, the only penalty is the $50 or so for the exam fee, since you can choose to report your scores later.

If you're looking for an online course, Brigham Young University offers one at a reasonable cost.

Thanks Bruce! I am leaning towards preparing the best I can for the DANTES exam and then going for it end of July.

As I said in an earlier post I have taken 3 CLEP exams and came out just fine. I went into them with a considerable amount of confidence which I believe to be based on the fact that I am a 30-something adult with life experience and nothing to lose or be afraid of. This really gives you a whole new perspective on things. So, that said, I WILL NOT let this statistics exam scare me!! LOL, LOL

Thanks a lot and will let you all know how I do end of July.
