Here's the deal: I was recently informed by COSC that ICCP exams are not currently accepted, because ACE is re-evaluating them. Apparently they do this every now and then.

The PDF that you can download from ACE's website lists the ICCP exams valid until Dec 2001, however, they did recieve an offical extension until Dec. 2003. So as of Dec. 2003, any ICCP exam taken is not being OFFICIALLY granted any college credit recomendation by ACE, until the re-review of the ICCP exams is done, if I am understanding this correctly.

ACE says that ICCP has to send them more materials, and ICCP says that ACE has to send them more materials. In any case, the PDF on ACE's website has not been updated yet (just checked today) - still says Dec. 2001 (and then the 2-year extension, which is not listed). But no more extensions, apparently once the review is done there will be a new PDF (or so they say).

According to ICCP, most of the re-evaluation is done, but they are still waiting on the results of the analysis of one particular type of data having to do with some parameter of the examinations.

Excelsior told me that they are going to be phasing out the Excelsior/ICCP exams. I was kind of looking forward to taking at least a couple of the ICCP exams, maybe not necessarily the core, but of course, now I don't know.

I am probably going to embark on a new fact-finding excursion into the world of the unknown, but I haven't really heard very many people talking about this. Is this because there is confidence that ICCP will be re-approved, and what is the possibility that any exam taken between Dec 2003 and the new re-approval date will be invalid?

Or am I just completely misinformed? COSC is saying that they are not currently accepting credits from ICCP exams AT ALL. I guess the real question is will the exams be accepted retroactively if/when the things are re-approved. It seems to me from reading this message board and looking at the dates that there are many folks studying for, paying for, and taking the ICCP exams currently, even though they are apparently, at the moment, not "officially" recognized by ACE as a source of college credit. Perhaps the people with whom I have spoken at COSC (not currently accepting the credit at all) and Excelsior (phasing out the Excelsior/ICCP exams) are wrong? It seems unlikely that both schools could be misinformed. I am considering COSC, as well as Excelsior, but I kind of had my hopes set on using the ICCP exams as a way of fulfilling some requirements!

And the question remains if they can be used in a portfolio as well - in other words, if ACE says that they don't meet the criteria, it might be difficult to use them on a portfolio.

Perhaps I am just talking to the wrong people, I don't know. My hunch, or hope actually, is that the lady I spoke to at Excelsior is wrong and that in the worst-case scenario that ACE doesn't reapprove the ICCP exams, that Excelsior will take that over and instead of taking an ICCP C++ exam, for instance, we will take an Excelsior C++ exam. But that is purely speculation on my part. I see that they are still online at the Prometric website, could sign up for one today.

To make a long story short: I don't get it.

I received essentially the same story as you did from both COSC and ICCP since early 2003. I had my advisor at COSC as well as people from their registrar's office involved. Their story to me was that COSC is following ACE, and won't accept ICCP exams for credit until ACE re-approves them.

I also learned from ICCP that the ACE credit recommendation for the Core exam will likely be reduced to 7 credits from 17.

    Cheers,
    Mark

It will be interesting to see the results of the transcripts I had ICCP send to ECE.

Also of interest will be wethor or not they remove the previously granted credit from my file as I am re-matriculated -- I reenrolled last month at ECE.

    stumped

I am stumped. I was just browsing the Excelsior website and they are still listing the ICCP exams as something that they give credit for, under the Technology Degrees section. And the webpages are new, with new graphics - it looks like the whole website has been redone in the very recent past. Wouldn't they have not listed the ICCP exams if they weren't accepting them anymore? I am not understanding this.

Is it possible that Excelsior can continue to give credit for the exams because they have entered into a partership with ICCP, and they are officially listed as "Excelsior" exams, not ICCP exams, and are offered at Prometric via Excelsior, instead of through ICCP? And if so, seeing as how COSC gives credit for Excelsior exams, wouldn't it be possible to take the "Excelsior" ICCP exams at Prometric and get credit from those exams at COSC?

I just feel like there is something that is not adding up here. Something doesn't make sense. If I were to enroll at Excelsior, and then they were to discontinue the exams, that would be disappointing. If I were to enroll at COSC, and it were to turn out that they would not accept the exams, but at the same time Excelsior would be accepting the exams, then I would have rather enrolled at Excelsior. Furthemore, how is it that Excelsior would be giving credit for something like that and COSC would not? I was under the impression that COSC accepted all of the Excelsior exams and vice versa, and that both colleges basically operated under the same academic standards.

I don't get it. It just doesn't make sense!!!

I am guessing that the ICCP has not updated the exams since the ACE evaluation period.

...if that is the case, out of fairness -- they probably give credit for the exams as they were created in the ACE window.

...I'll find out soon.... since I just took the core and transfered it in to ECE...

As soon as they matriculate me I will create a degree completion plan...

    ICCP exams via Excelsior/Prometric

Excelsior stopped offering ICCP exams via Prometric on 31-Dec-2002. I had taken 2 ICCP exams via Prometric up to that time and the remaining ICCP exams I've taken were through ICCP.

I lack 3 hrs for my B.S. in MIS from EC. I am planning on taking the ICCP Data Comms to complete my degree. EC verbally informed me that ICCP was an acceptable source of credit. I also have saved the page to my hard drive from their new website that says ICCP is a viable source of credit. I plan to hold their feet to the fire if they try to not accept it.

Alnico, let us know how EC reacts to your ICCP core exam.

Texas? Where you one who had problems with the DRM exam? If so your not going to like what I found out today :) *vbg*

The accepted my Data Comm exam for the Data Comm componet -- I had taken it back when Excelsior offered it....right at the time they changed thier name.

Here's what I got about the Core:

1st. They had not recieved the transcript -- I've tried to have it delivered 2 times -- but I guess the snails ate it.

2nd. "The core examination will duplicate some of your oursework but will satisfy "Systems Analysis and Design" as well as "Database Concepts" which you need."

    Definately no complaints there!

i never took the iccp drm exam. i took the tesc tecep db exam to meet that requirement.

i only need ec to accept the iccp data comms and sys development exams. i've already passed the sys dev exam and plan to take the data comms this saturday. they haven't gotten the sys dev exam results yet because my proctor has both exams on one floppy so they'll send in the disk when i complete the second exam. once i pass the data comms, i'll be done with my b.s..

since they accepted your data comms exam i feel a bit better about it. also their website still lists iccp as a legitimate source of credit so i'm not going to worry about it until i hear otherwise from ec. iccp's website mentions nothing of ace reviewing their program.

sorry for no caps....me type with one hand, me hold baby with one hand, no hand for shift key.
