Greetings all, Someone on this Forum is likely to know the answer: What is the average equivalent of the US one graduate credit hour in ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) credits? Does anyone have a formula for converting into either? Kenneth K. A.
I don't think there is a straight conversion, but on page 8 of this pdf file, located at http://www.mff.cuni.cz/fakulta/tiskoviny/ects.pdf , it says The ECTS credit system allows courses successfully completed at “home University” to be counted toward a degree at MFF and vice-versa. Typically, each course of 2 hours of lectures/seminars per week represents 3 ECTS credits. For details on any particular course students are expected to consult the actual list of courses that is available on-line, see http://www.cuni.cz/cuni/anotace . An ECTS study programme must be approved by both the home and the host institutions before the student leaves for the study period abroad. If the programme of study agreed upon is then satisfactorily completed by the student, the credits earned at MFF will be fully recognized by the home institution. this is a really good page too http://www.kent.ac.uk/registry/european-office/student-unit/incoming/ects-guide/ects.htm http://www.sussex.ac.uk/International/europe/ectsuser.shtml http://europa.eu.int/comm/education/programmes/socrates/ects_en.html
For a guide to grade conversions between US and ECTS grades try this link provided by World Education Services: http://www.wes.org/gradeconversionguide/ECTS.htm This link is to a piece about evaluating new European degrees in the US: http://www.wes.org/ewenr/04march/Feature.htm And finally, a link to all Bologna resources provided by World Education Services - a US-based credential evaluation service: http://www.wes.org/ewenr/bolognaprocess.htm
Thanks Thanks for sharing the information. But, I guess, the sites really don't speak all that much about US/ECTS equivalency. Kenneth K. A.
ECTS I don't have an answer for you, but I suggest that you contact the American Council on Education. If they can't give you an answer they can head you in the right direction. And once you have the answer, please share it with us. http://www.acenet.edu/
