    From bozzy, earlier:
I don't think bozzy's threatening anyone-- and it is possible that someone might actually present to a not-wonderful school a significant piece of work, deserving of academic recognition, even though the school might normally be satisfied with nothing more than a payment before granting a degree.

If it swims, waddles, and has a bill it's not always a duck-- could be a platypus instead. Of course, if a place tends to produce ducks rather than platypae, the next one coming down the chute is likely to be a duck.

My goodness maybe some posters should re-read my post. If you think you are in danger of proceedings against you then that is certainly not my problem.

At least G got it...yo dawg!

Bozzy is just doing his normally degree mill apology routine. It was "tired" to begin with and more so now. Just your basic baseless rant. "Yawn".

On a serious note, I have never shilled for a mill, but have definitely offered a pragmatic opinion. With regards to views on different modes of education, I do however understand that those amongst us of limited intelligence, insecurity and pride issues will usually tag those with a different opinion as incorrect and misguided.

    It is unfortunate.

    yanking of chains

And those amongst us who are really, really smart will sometimes get annoyed with those who try to yank our chains.

I wonder what this appalling episode implies about ACICS.

Here we have one of their commissioners, a gentleman who makes policy for a US Dept. of Education recognized accreditor, who by his own admission can't recognize a rather full-frontal bogus internet "university".

If this is an indication of the competence of ACICS' top management when they are motivated, when they are investigating schools on their own behalf, then can we really expect staffers in the trenches to recognize shady and substandard practices that their own schools might be pulling? Or would we just get, "well, it looked convincing..."?

Personally, I think that the people manning the ACICS desks are better than that.

But I think that ACICS' reputation just got a major black eye. Perhaps the body needs to make a site visit to inspect how they choose their own top management.

The article that galanga most recently posted a link to indicates that the bogus degree was acquired AFTER his appointment, so ACICS may be clean. It goes on to say that the topic is on the agenda for their next meeting. ;)

    I'm not so sure.

My point wasn't that they appointed, voted in, or whatever, a guy with a questionable degree. My point was that they appointed, voted in, or whatever, a guy who saw nothing wrong with earning a quickie doctorate from SRU.

Pleas of ignorance aren't very reassuring when they come from top managers of an accrediting association tasked with overseeing the academic propriety of hundreds of colleges.

ACICS needs to take a close look at how their commissioners are chosen and at what qualifications are necessary to head up an accrediting association.

Maybe fairly clean. But if they were really clean, it would no longer say "Dr. Davis" and "Saint Regis University" on their Website, would it?

aarbrooks quotes the Chronicle of Higher Education:

    > At first, Mr. Davis said, he was suspicious of Saint Regis,

    > little time. That's why he "researched the crap out of it," he

You'd think researching the crap out of SRU would have brought him to DegreeInfo, no?

Yes, exactly. After about 2 hours on the internet, and maybe $20 for one of John Bear's book, most of us have learned enough to correctly classify schools like St. Regis. It surely doesn't say much for his research skills.

Is there any money in mill shilling. I could do that if it paid well. The librarian gig does not pay the big bucks.

I also though about making porn, I even have experience as a technical director for a world famous television network (HSN) and I live in Florida with lots of people who will do anything for money.

Fortunately or not, I am not poor enough to not find that repulsive.

But shilling, now that I can do from home.

    Pragmatic! Oh, that's funny.

You are really honing your millspeak skills, "bozzy." If you don't already work for St. Regis, maybe you should submit a resume. What's the worst that could happen? They'll award you a doctorate?

    Hi Jeff,

So if people have an opinion, that is different from your opinion they are shills. (who made up this word anyway?)

I think I shall refrain from further comments about SRU or for that matter any school from now on, afterall Jeff has all the answers. It must be a heavy burden to be so self righteous.

Bozzy (who has previously stated that he has no affiliation with SRU or unaccredited schools, unlike some contributors on this forum bashing schools)

PS. Yes maybe I should send them my resume, thanks.

    letters of recommendation

    Yo Bozzy,

You were going to write me a letter of recommendation for an SRU position, so I can do the same for you if you like!

One hand washes the other, something like that. :)
