I was wondering if anyone has had first-hand experience with the University of Illinois at Springfield's online M.S. degree program in Mgmt Info. Systems (MIS)??

    Their URL is: http://mis.uis.edu/

I think their curriculum appears to be challenging & certainly their e-tuition rates are very reasonable for a RA DL program. (They do require GMAT or GRE for admission.)

    Thanks.

FYI - I recently received my acceptance letter to the UIS - online MIS graduate program. I'll be sure to post future notes on my experiences in this forum... expect to enroll in the first course during summer 2004.

    Regards,
    Gene

Congrats Gene! Please do be sure to post your experiences. This program is on my short list, and I'm hoping to get my Excelsior program wrapped-up in time to take a course of 2 from UIS during the summer at the reduced "e-tuition" rate.

    check this out guys

    Tuition and Fees
Tuition and fees may vary depending upon program of study, number of credits taken, and course delivery. In-state tuition for Fall 2003 and Spring 2004 is $129.50 per credit hour for graduate students and $115 for undergraduates. Beginning in Fall 2003, out-of-state students who have applied to and been accepted in an online degree program and are taking only online classes pay e-tuition. See e-tuition below. Tuition for non-Illinois residents not meeting e-tuition criteria is $345.00 per credit hour for undergraduates and $388.50 for graduates. In addition to tuition, online students pay a tech fee of $25 per credit hour. Additional fees may apply or vary by course.

    a 200.00 dollar increase ! I wonder is it worth it !

  9. Re: check this out guys

I don't follow your logic about the $200 increase.

From what I read into it:

    1) Anyone in-state gets the e-tuition rate for DL classes

    2) Anyone out of state gets the e-tuition rate for DL classes if they ONLY take DL classes that semester for an online program

    3) Anyone out of state gets the higher rate if they either (1) take non-DL courses or (2) applied to and were accepted by a non-online program.

    Or am I missing something?

    Cheers,
    Mark

This was mostly directed at the out of state online mis students I actually live in illinois and this campus is not very far from me the tuition for me be 129.50 via campus or on line however this was the tuition for all if you enrolled in the mis program and this fall the tuition will go up to 388.50 per credit hour for out of state student which i believe gene is so tis would directly affect the cost of his program

    to sum up

    instate no change at all

out of state the tuition will be in creased from 129.00 per credit hour to 388.50 per credit for out of state online mis program which actually began last fall of 2003 which I did see last time

    guitarmark 2000

Basically my question is is the progam that good is to be worth 388.50 per credit hour to out of state residents ?

What makes it that good ?

enquiring minds want to know mark!!

The in-state tuition surely does not cover the cost of the courses. Illinois, like other States, has surely peed away its resources and is running out of tax goats to roast. The pandering subsidies must now be to just State residents.

That, at any rate, is my analysis.

    decimon,

That sounds like very good explianation. I thing the curiccullum looks very good and I was wondering if the uis reputation is as it chapaign ,il campus. Is this school nationally ranked I know the uof I is but Im not sure about the springfield campus. I really like this program on paper but I really want know more about this school and this program. I sent off for more information on the program but I am waiting for it to come in the mail. for me the master program is cheaper than my bachelors because I live in Illinois so the tuition would be really really cheap129.50 per credit hour wow! I know the reputation of u of I is uis just as strong ?

Codekiller do you live near the campus (thats what it sounds like), if you do and you dont know the reputation of the school..... well, I think that says alot about the reputation of the school.

I cant comment on their reputation since I do not live in Illinios but US News ranks them as a tier 3 school (for what its worth) and their athletic programs are not a member of the NCAA (almost 100% sure). That is all I know.

Also, it doesn't look like they are raising tuiton for out of state online students, is that what you trying to say?

If they are it would be a disapointment to me since I have looked at this program as a possibility for myself after I graduate. My BA will be in Management & Information Technologies and is very business heavy, this program looks as though it has a good number of programming related classes in it too.

    splas,

I live about 13 miles from st.louis and about 60 miles from UIS campus so it is within driving distance but it is pretty far away. I am not sure about schools reputation but cant be to bad as it part of U of I I think.

The price increase was effective fall of last year so it should not affect your enrollment price this is correct. I misread the post!

I am also considering this school I could probably get enough scholarships to cover the entire tuition most of them comming directly from the school. alot of the questions I need anwsers to at this point I guess will have to come from the school and people actually in the program. If I hear anything new I will post it !

According to the UIS Admissions office, as a resident of Michigan, I am entitled to the e-tuition rates because of my acceptance into the DL graduate program.

Thus, the per credit rate of $129.50 + 25.00 (tech fee) = $154.50 per credit hour. The MIS program requires 44 credit hours to complete, therefore, my opinion was that $6,798 in tuition for the total program is reasonable. (Each course is 4-cr hr.; $618 per course sans books).

    UIS obtains AACSB Accreditation

FYI - I am finally graduating next month from the UIS MIS program after enrolling in the fall of 2004. (My final graduate research project took longer than expected due to the data collection/analysis portion). My total tuition for the 44-credit curriculum was just shy of $9000 + books.

More importantly, for those considering this program - the majority of the professors were top notch and the rigor of the curriculum was outstanding; certainly more challenging than I expected.

In addition, the following email was published this week by the Chancellor:

Subject: College of Business and Management reaches milestone

I am very pleased to announce that our College of Business and Management has earned accreditation from AACSB International -- The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business -- the premier accrediting body for collegiate schools of business worldwide since 1916. With this achievement, CBM joins an elite group that makes up less than 10% of the world's business schools. Of the 1,619 business schools in the U.S., only 456 of them are accredited by AACSB International, or about 28%.

We are very proud of the college's dean, faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders who played a significant role and made numerous contributions. The multi-year accreditation process took a great deal of commitment and determination during which CBM underwent meticulous internal review, evaluation and adjustment. A vibrant and relevant mission, high quality programs and teaching, and graduates who have achieved specified learning goals are some of the reasons why CBM has earned this prestigious accreditation.

Congratulations to all of you who worked so long and hard to achieve this milestone.
