when you got a new one, ofcourse which would way later than when you actually graduated. Do they put new date on the diploma or does it still carry the original date of issue ?

Holy necromancy! But I'll go ahead and add that the College of William and Mary does their undergraduate diplomas in Latin, but the graduate diplomas are in English. (At least my wife's is.)

College of the Holy Cross issues their diplomas in Latin. Harvard Extension School's are in Latin, School of Education is in English.
I know this is going back 8 years, but the guy with the first reply on this thread claiming the Harvard JD wasn't in Latin was odd. HLS issues all of their diplomas in Latin...

One of the oldest schools in Massachusetts is Williams College (est. 1793). Their diplomas apparently haven't changed much since then; they are still in Latin, and that includes a latinized name of the school, as "Collegi Guilielmensis".

So the diploma of Williams College doesn't actually have the word "Williams" on it anywhere -- you are just supposed to know that "Guilielmensis" represents the Latin equivalent of the English name "William" (like the Spanish name "Guillermo" or French name "Guillaume").

The college bookstore makes a point of offering special diploma frames that include the name of the school printed in English on the matte.

Westminster Theological Seminary's diplomas for all of their degrees are in Latin. If I remember correctly, they give you a card with the translation (I haven't looked at my diploma in a while). Also, the University of Dallas issues their diplomas in Latin (I believe).

    Hope this helps.

Yep, I got mine from U of O in Latin also (just to be irritating - which was important to me then). I ordered a new copy of the degree in English a few years ago for $25 or whatever it was, for just the reasons you describe. Best of both worlds! :)

Trinity College Dublin uses Latin - after 421 years they're not likely to change now!

Wow, I remember this topic from 2004 (when I was posting under a different name-don't have that email anymore).

Harvard JDs are indeed in latin: see Diploma Translation ? Juris Doctor (J.D.)

Some schools go back and forth. Columbia University issued it's JDs (law degrees) in English in the early 1970s, but they've returned to Latin.

As for the question of "how do you show your client your degree if they don't read Latin?"; that's what those $250 diploma frames with the name of the university and school are for.
