    Hello,
I'm looking for a distance learning course in traditional Mexican Folk Healing, i.e. Curanderismo, or herbal healing in the Mexican tradition, healing rituals, etc. This is simply to supplement my knowledge as a mental health therapist working with recent immigrants, many of whom often use folk healing and herbal remedies. I have many books on the subject, but would enjoy an actual course in the subject. This may also peripherally help me with my dissertation topic at Capella Univ. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Really has to be focused on traditional Mexican healing, though. Thank you!

If nothing is found, one strategy that sometimes works is to make contact with someone who teaches the subject on campus, and suggest a distance interaction. Some teachers find it intriguing; some would have zero interest. No harm in trying, especially if you bring some ideas on structure and logistics to the (virtual) table.

One place to start could be with Dr. Torres who is offering a 10-day residential course in Curanderismo next summer in Albuquerque:

Thank you so much for the great idea! I'd actually read about Dr. Torres' course in NM, and am quite intrigued - there are two others around the same time about curanderismo, including time spent in Oaxaca with healers and in practice. That would be incredible - just not this particular summer. Perhaps next!

I hadn't thought about contacting a professor. Perhaps if he isn't interested, he may have another resource for me.

Hello Michele - You may want to take look at Bastyr University. If they don't have a specific course to meet your needs then your may find a professor there who can better direct you. Good luck,
    Jack

Thank you, Jack - I just emailed their continuing ed department to ask for ideas and resources. I also just emailed Dr. Torres as suggested by John. Hopefully I'll be able to turn up something interesting and feasible. Thanks for the ideas!
