(I guess we've been sleeping for months, lol)

Nexford University did it. They're now DEAC accredited. Still hanging onto that ASIC accreditation though...

Agora University, also now DEAC accredited.

United Medical Institute, they're in too.

Columbia Southern University dropped DEAC accreditation. They're now accredited by the SACSCOC.

Catholic Distance University dropped DEAC accreditation. They're now accredited by the HLC.

American College of Healthcare Sciences has just added its first ever Doctorate, the Doctor of Science in Integrative Health. It doesn't appear to be live just yet. Expect it to be pricey.

The New York Institute of Art and Design, New York Institute of Career Development, and New York Institute of Photography are all kaput. The Bain Capital/Penn Foster group seems to be trimming quite regularly now. They cut a bunch of degrees from Ashworth College including all of its Master's programs, and before that they cut Ashworth's Nursing program, now this.

Aspen University is on show cause. Uh-oh.

Shiloh University is on a teach-out plan. It's all over on December 31st :(

Wow! This is the Coptic business and theological school, right? I just posted about them a few weeks back.

I wonder if they'll keep their propio agreement with their Spanish university partner or not?

Wow! BIG news! Nexford U. is the ONLY ASIC-accredited school to make it to US recognized accreditation- -E-V-E-R.
I figured if we saw an ASIC school get US National Accreditation it might be either Nexford U. or Newlane U. Looks like Nexford was first -- maybe Newlane, soon? I'd like to see it happen for them. :)

Newlane is at least on the Institutions to be Considered list: https://www.deac.org/Public-Notices/Institutions-To-Be-Considered.aspx

I also saw that Signum is also being considered. If anyone wants to get that Tolkien degree on the cheap, now might be the time to do so!

As far as I remember, NOTHING at Signum is "on the cheap." It is not, and never was, an inexpensive school. They deal in "luxury items," priced accordingly. I was interested in the Early Germanic Languages MA, at one point, but I couldn't see spending a lot of money on an unaccredited school - no matter how tempting. So I took some free Anglo-Saxon lessons instead. Spricst þū Englisċ? :) And found I can fiddle with Old Norse, Gothic etc, whenever I like for not very much money - sometimes nothing. That'll do. And anything with Runes - I like. And yes - there's a special Anglo-Saxon "Futhark" (Runic alphabet). Soon abandoned for the Roman alphabet, though.

I remember thinking Signum was a bit presumptuous, for a "Harry Potter" school. Unlike Hogwarts, they required an accredited Undergrad degree to enrol in their unaccredited Master's. Good luck to them. They'd probably make a decent DEAC school. :)

Yep. It's finally happened - ASIC to recognized US NA. Nexford first, (DEAC) Newlane is under consideration, also at DEAC and Charisma U. (Turks & Caicos) was due for a site visit in Jan, for TRACS Candidacy status. TRACS hasn't published news either way yet. I'm sure it's coming.

We used to say "No ASIC school has ever... etc." And back then, we were right. Well, now an ASIC school has. And others may very well join it in achieving recognized US accreditation. I know there's a lesson for me, here. Maybe for others, too. :)

Yes, I knew - it's been on quite a while. People who run the school contributed to a thread here. I think if they've persevered this long - it's highly likely their persistence will be rewarded. And as I said in the following thread, I'd very much like to see that.

Well, "on the cheap" is all relative, eh? I was meaning that the price will likely go up in the next few months or next few years if they do manage to become a DEAC-accredited school. I do agree that 8-9k for an unaccredited degree from a mostly unknown school is a terrible deal.

I too was looking at the German philology concentration though. For an English (or German) teacher, this might be an "okay" way to move up the salary scale (as we discussed in the English propio thread). Signum is still in the same relative price range as ACE, but you'd get to do something a bit more nerdy than general education classes. Of course, I'm not recommending this as the ideal way to get that pay bump, but I imagine some teachers may have fun doing a Signum degree rather than a generic M.Ed. elsewhere. If/when they get DEAC accredited and if those teachers' schools accept NA degrees for salary promotions, then why not?

If.... and if.... maybe. If the stars align, too, then probably. :) "Definitely" is a hard call to make, here.

No we (i.e you) haven't. The report date on the new accreditations is Feb 17th - TODAY. You were right on it, Learning Addict.
And Cal Southern relinquishing DEAC? That was effective this week. Feb 13. Again, fresh news. Congratulations. The Fashion Guy says to get a newsboy cap and practice hollering "Extra! -- Extra! Read all about it - 5 cents!" I dunno - you might find it's a cool look. No? :)

It always takes DEAC a while to announce what's happened.

Wow! And Bain Capital/Penn Foster, is new to me. Keeping my eye on them. Thanks for the post. Good info.

Heh, makes me think of the Newsies movie. But yeah, I was referring to the news dating back to December with the New York Institutes being shut down. Although on second glance it looks like that information didn't come until Jan. 6, so this was more like a nice nap;)

Maybe. Maybe not. Besides getting accredited or being rejected, there's always the possibility that a school can fail to get accredited, but not be rejected entirely. If that school is kept in the application process, I don't know that the accreditor will make a public announcement of that, because it's not really a decision yet.

    Or maybe they will.

Absolutely true, Rich. It's not all that important a difference, but this site visit was for Candidacy, not Accreditation. TRACS has a Candidate status, somewhat similar to RA and some programmatic accreditors. And definitely, what you say can happen in this case. A school can achieve Candidacy, or stay in the application process. And a report made if it does, and possibly not, if it doesn't. I think it'd have to be in pretty bad shape, for outright dismissal.

    I guess we'll see --- or maybe we won't. :)

My take: I think we will see. :) I get the vibe a lot of effort has gone into this. Time will tell.

I'm NOT expecting that, for this Candidacy visit - at all. But yes, it can happen - I remember the Ka-Boom for a big Bible School in the Midwest - somebody wrote a "tell-all" letter, around the time of the Regional Accreditor's final site visit for full Accreditation. That was maybe 18 years ago, Rich - but I'm pretty sure you'd know the one. :)

Think "Yellow stickers,"a high-level UK Church endorsement, a U. of Wales validation, and RA and DETC (then) tries at accreditation - neither of which went in their favour.

Ring any bells yet? One more clue - it's still in operation, unaccredited - religious exemption, in Indiana. I'm a wee bit reluctant to give you the name because, well, you know - a different school once sued both of us for telling the truth. :)

But - in the unlikely event, you still need it, after these clues - let me know. BTW - one extra clue - Dr. Levicoff used to like lampooning the school. Very good job of it he did, too!

Ah yes. If I close my eyes and think back, I can see the blue-and-orange flames (nice color-scheme!) of burning hydrocarbons, from Dr. Steve's mighty flamethrower. And the sizzle, as the flames struck home... fearsome! :)

Okay, Rich - here's a post with the name - right at the top of the page.
