Charisma has a site visit for Candidacy scheduled for Jan 2023.

I find their degrees a little overpriced for what they are but perhaps with the additional recognition of US based institutional accreditation (on top of recognized business accreditation) they will become an option for some people.

I haven't actually seen graduates listing degrees from them but perhaps they don't have a lot of graduates yet.

They were founded in 2011. In 2013 they sued DI and some of us individually. I was never served - and neither was anyone else except Dr. Rich Douglas. He and his legal counsel went to Court, successfully defended against the claim, and were awarded costs against the Plaintiff. Rich has recounted those events here in the forum.

The wiki says they have 8,000 undergrads at present and 2,000 post-grads - so I imagine their alumni base is significant. My guess is that TRACS will accredit them. I have no further interest in Charisma.

Same. I've found that hypnosis influences people way better.

Guess degreeforum users claimed the usual back then, Charisma is illegitimate and similiar to a mill...which turned out to be wrong

Charisma evolved, changed locations and accreditation.
And as we see they are still evolving.
Instead of using the criticism by DI as positive criticisms and improve they went to court and lost.
Later they are implementing some of the recommendations after all.
The more they do to earn recognised accreditations the better they will serve their students and graduates.

There is something unsettling about discussing a school that has been suggested to threaten DI posters with lawsuits. Not very "Christian-like!" Am I missing something?

It was hurting the business, they are not a charity but a business.

    It is still unsettling!

"Charisma University reaffirms that it does not discriminate on the basis of religion in admissions, contracting or employment. We do expect all those associated with the university to understand and respect our Christian heritage and ethos."
Statement of Faith - Charisma University (edu.eu)

I personally think they should post a letter of apology to DI posters on this forum and clarify that they support freedom of speech, and freedom of religion, and appreciate constructive dialogue about higher education issues.

All institutions including Charisma have to start from somewhere, it seems the owners 'were iffy' at best before their lawsuit, but now getting better through change/recommendations, and trying to obtain valid accreditation along the way to building/growing their institution. I think they're doing alright, previously; I recall they wanted to start a Carribean Medical school but that didn't materialize yet or may not as they don't have the demand or resources at this moment.

A university or any organization can have sketchy beginnings and turn legitimate or improve. TRACS, itself, is kind of sketchy, so I'm not sure that candidacy with them means much.

I think it was the discussion about its accreditation and ACBSP's candidate not accredited at the time. If I remember correctly, the owner argued that DI members stated that the school is not ACBSP accredited. Which was the fact.

I think it does. If TRACS accredits the school (and I can see that happening) the school will have Recognized US National Accreditation. I can't think of anything more significant than that.

You are correct. Not what was/is "Regional" but still recognized accreditation. People may not like their brand of fundamental type religion but it is what it is. I assume they will have to have some kind of residential program. Also, they got the business school accreditation so someone seems to know what they are doing. Started off a bit rough and improved I assume.

I still think their degrees are over priced but that is up to the market.

Is that ACQUIN (sp) equivalent of Regional Accreditation. How is that looked at?

But USDoE keeps telling us there's NO difference ... it's ALL "National." :)

    I don't know anything other than what's here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ACQUIN

They're legitimate, operate in several parts of the world and have made themselves some very valuable alliances. Never heard how US evaluators have treated any degrees from any ACQUIN-accredited schools. If anyone can tell us their experience, it would be good knowledge to have.

The name was changed to Charisma University in 2011. The school was founded several years before that, in Victorville, California, as Victorville International University/American Centered University. Twin universities run by the Okpala twins. At the time, the schools were accredited by Maxine Asher's World Association of Universities and Colleges, and affiliates of Newport University in California and World Information Distributed University in Moscow. American Centered University eventually disappeared.
