I look at it that way. It's just not in my wheelhouse. But if it works for some people - e.g. for SweetSecret - I'm fine with it being there for them.

If it's so untrue, why the spectacular failures, then?

Nobody says anyone HAS to use it, or that they CAN'T. I'd prefer to leave it that way.

I am interested to know what oversight there is of the institutions as opposed to the open ledger.

Another tumble - $19, 604 right now. And "right now" means absolutely nothing, of course.

One could just as easily ask why if regulation is such a magic bullet that we had to bail out the entire financial system in 2008.

And I'm happy to leave this on that note of solid agreement.

As people get fleeced all over the place, this might be a distinction without a difference.

    $19,700.

    (Must not disappoint SF.)

The investment value of crypto is based upon nothing.

"Investors" have absolutely no evidence, or even indication, whether or not their "investments" will pay off.

The ones who come out ahead do so radomly.

    It's like a lottery, except:

    (1) Crypto-merchants don't have to publish the odds of winning.
    (2) There are no specific prize amounts - or set draw dates

    It's like money except:

    (1) No sovereign authority can say (or pretend) that it has any value.
    (2) It's for the greedy - and seedy. Not the needy.

Nah, us senior members are helping newbies to the world of degrees and education... It's not really "aimlessly" volunteering.

You are always good for a laugh! I'm right there with you, although in a different area where I am involved.

Coincidence - I made it to 11,000 today. Just a number. No significance. In my case, I know the answer. It has not mattered. And it never will. No biggie. And YMMV, of course. People do a lot of things that don't matter. Whatever amuses them or they feel comfortable doing. The fun factor here has been slowed down for a while - and I have plenty of interesting new opportunities to study and work at. So, to make time for them, I'm taking at least a few months off DI. I might have some info for folks here about what I've learned when I come back. It seems the older I get, the more fascinating opportunities come ZAP! out of the blue.

    See y'all later.

Bitcoin down $1,000 today. $19,400 to $18,400. Maybe it's time to post a D N R order on the patient's chart. --oh, probably not... who knows? DR. OZ? Dr. Nosborne?

... And I'm still here.... why do I do this to good, decent people?

Not so. This board has been quite useful to me over the years. The actual information had a considerable influence for the better on how I spent my education related dollars and the forum as a social activity was a good thing during Covid.

I wouldn't have either of my Master's degrees without DI. I wouldn't know a fraction of what I know about higher education at all. I owe an enormous debt to this place. It's small and scrappy but I know it won't last forever and one day I'll really miss it.

I gotta admit - that's 'way better than owing an enormous debt to the Student Loan people!

Well, Johann, the Mounties were at The Funeral in their signature red serge. I guess that means Canada will remain a Kingdom?
