Southwestern College (and New Earth Institute?)

    RA through HLC
$835 per quarter unit, the program is 75-78 quarter units with 3 residencies @ $900 each, which are 6 days in the first years and then 4 days in the subsequent ones.

I don't think it's my cup of tea, but maybe I just don't know enough about it yet.

Sounds like what was supposed to happen in the communes etc. of the 60s. We know how that went. The hardest change to effect is change in people. And without that -- you got nuthin'. I don't get a vibe that they really have that down, here. I don't know who does, either.

I think it's yet another Ivory Tower degree. Might get you up the pay scale in a NGO.

    Sounds like fun. But practical?

No, but as you say, Rich - fun. It'll give grads lots to ponder about, as they drive the NGO-issued Mercedes around the Sahel, seeing what the subsistence farming folks are doing lately.

    Found it poking around.

Perhaps I need to re-read everything, but the contents and purpose of the degree are not clear to me. Also, I see where the final "dissertation" can take many forms. This is a complaint I had about Union's practice of awarding the PhD for everyone: lots of dissertations were not scholarly. Oh, they were academic, and the made contributions to their respective fields, but more related to practice than to theory (which is what a scholarly dissertation does).

Anyway, it sounds intriguing, and New Mexico is pretty. (Good thing, because you'll be visiting the campus quite a bit.)

    Visionary Practice and Regenerative Leadership.

Sounds like some sort of eye doctor program.

Yeah, I was thinking it would be for Vision Science or something related to Optometry, but it's not. Moreover, it's going to cost about $62,625 USD for this degree. It seems like a Leadership/Management PhD. If there are "other" more affordable options, without this specific specialization, I would look at those first and then add a grad cert or something to get more "specialization" later.

Crystal balls? Group meditation? Does the diploma suspend itself in mid-air?

"Regenerative" means "healing" in this case. I don't pretend to understand how that becomes a flavor of leadership.

Southwestern College in New Mexico has long principally offered master's and continuing education in art therapy and counseling. This PhD looks well within the range you'd expect from art therapy and counseling educators designing a PhD in leadership both as a higher credential for their master's alumni and additionally to serve a broader market.

Leading after traumatic events? At least, that's what I would guess.

Sounds logical -- but will we ever know? I don't think we should have to guess. Unless it's specifically coded for ONLY those people who have a strong and very specific interest... I like some mysteries, but this is a bit aggravating.

I guess someone could ask the school....

Okay, somebody will. I'll email them tonight - and let people know what they say. Hopefully it won't be like my 2008 enquiry to IGNOU. Still waiting on that one... getting IGNOUred, I guess.

"...capacity to regenerate broken social systems...."

Hmm. Broken Social Scene? Canadian Indie band, right?
    Yep, here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broken_Social_Scene

Maybe this school trains people to lead rock musicians to healing & recovery from their various excesses & debacles? Hopefully, we'll see. :)

I dunno. Sounds kind of New Age-y to me.

Regenerative Leadership? Reminds me of when a local agricultural research institution decided they wanted to move towards Regenerative Agriculture. They let go of 200+ researchers, some of which were the top in their fields in the world and held positions on famous journals. Replaced them with "Regenerative Researchers."
