I asked a friend who made his career as an RF engineer in the defense establishment about this. What he can't understand is why the U.S. military uses the common internet for anything at all sensitive. They do, though, and it can cause problems. We tie everything to the internet these days as a matter of course. We should stop and think.
This is serious national security threat. A 2019 law requires the FCC to identify companies producing telecommunications equipment and services “that have been found to pose an unacceptable risk to U.S. national security.” Russia’s AO Kaspersky Lab and two Chinese vendors China Telecom (Americas) and China Mobile International have been added by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC)’s Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau to its list of communications equipment and services that pose a threat to national security. The ban is consistent with requirements in the Secure and Trusted Communications Networks Act of 2019. Does this mean that widely-sold Kaspersky anti-virus software for PCs will no longer be sold in US? Oh yeah -- I forgot. Sanctions re: Ukraine have probably buried it already. OK - what has to be, has to be.
