I am just reporting the news.

I’m a professor, retiring at 62 because the Woke takeover of higher education has ruined academic life. “Another one?” you ask. “What does this guy have to say that hasn’t already been said by Jordan Peterson, Peter Boghossian, Joshua Katz, or Bo Winegard1?

There’s only one way to find out.

    Defenestration of a Colleague

I’ve been a tenure-track professor since 1996 (tenured since 2000) in the Anthropology Department at UCLA. (My research, which I plan to continue doing, has spanned topics ranging from nonhuman primate behavior to human personality variation). For decades, anthropology has notoriously been riven by conflict between scientific and political activist factions, leading many departments to split in two, but UCLA’s department remained unusually peaceful, cohesive, and intellectually inclusive until the late 2000s. Gradually, one hire at a time, practitioners of “critical” (i.e. far-left postmodernist) anthropology, some of them lying about their beliefs during job interviews, came to comprise the department’s most influential clique. These militant faculty recruited even more extremely militant graduate students to work with them.

That just raises the question how many more people who feel that way are saying nothing to avoid jeopardizing their retirements.

For a professor, his statement has a lot of issues in it. He laments his colleague's treatment after developing crime prediction software.

Note the absence of a claim by the students that he was a racist. They said that his software entrenched criminalization of Blackness. That software, according to Vox (to get the "leftist" side of the story): "is using military research funding for another tech and policing collaboration with potentially damaging repercussions: using machine learning, the Los Angeles Police Department’s criminal data, and an outdated gang territory map to automate the classification of “gang-related” crimes."

They're using a map of gang territory from 2009 for their 2018 paper. In the words of Sen. Collins, I am concerned.

He makes other false claims just in a cursory review. He claims that a professor was fired for refusing to use race-based grading. In reality, the professor was disciplined for the way he responded to the student's request, not for denying it. When he can't even get the explosive parts correct, it throws the whole argument into question.

I leave politics out of work and education. Nothing good ever comes from political discussions. I have my beliefs, you have your beliefs. So long as we work well together as a team, get the work done exceeding expectations, and are cordial, I could not care less what your political beliefs are.

I wish people could just respect one another regardless of ones beliefs.

I feel him I also want to emigrate from my homecountry Germany in the future and divest my assets in Germany because the woke culture is prevailing in Germany.

Results in unlimited immigration of unqualified immigrants, year long and strict Corona lockdowns, the white heterosexual man as the enemy image, unlimited state debt, very high taxes etc.
And if you don't like it you are being called a nazi.

In the USA you at least have the republicans as a strong political counterforce. In Germany you have AfD but only 10 percent vote for them.

I guess Germany and sweden are the most woke countries in the world.

I see Germany ranked 14th on the list of happiest countries. Sweden ranks 7th. The USA ranks 16th.

How is happiness measured? By survey? Call me cynical, but I don't see a way to deconfound individual and cultural differences in how happiness is defined and expressed.

The easiest way to be happy is to have low expectations. On the other hand, if one's culture frowns upon displaying excessive happiness, then one would be expected to report lower levels of happiness than are actually achieved.

We have actual Nazis here, but they're hard to find among the sea of people who are labeled Nazis for extremely minor differences of opinion.

"You at least have the Republicans" is nightmare fuel. Our politics is a long narrow hallway with Freddy Kruger on one end, Jason Voorhees on the other and the rest of us huddled in between.

Denmark and New Zealand take offense.

If you have some criticism of the methodology, state it. I didn't defend it and won't.

I forgot canada in the wokeness list too.

Since a lot of people seem to support the wokeness culture it isn't really surprising that they are happy when woke politics are conducted. Doesn't mean that everyone is happy with it.

Wokeness in 2022 seems to mean whatever conservatives don't like.

What specific policies are you against that are common to Germany, Sweden and Canada?

Universal Healthcare? Gun control? A life expectancy that reaches 80?

I'm utterly baffled by your reply and my morbid curiosity is getting the best of me. What's this about? I don't mean this argumentatively; I'm genuinely curious.

I asked you about the methodology since you were the one who brought it up. I'm no mind reader. I couldn't possibly have known that you didn't want to talk further about a subject that you brought up. Nor do I understand the expectation that I should seek out a source you didn't cite and critique a methodology you won't defend.

    Like I said, utterly baffled.

"Woke" is the political equivalent of a religion that calls itself "the truth". It's a cultic, highly conspiratorial worldview whose tenets are intersectional identity politics, cultural marxism, socialism, and moral relativism.

    Some examples.

    You might be woke if...

...you think that shoplifting laws are racist because some races commit more shoplifting than others, leading to a racial disparity in shoplifting prosecutions.

...you think it's unfair that a woman with 5 years of experience who works 40 hours a week makes less than a man with 20 years of experience who works 60 hours a week.

...you think that the police should mind their own business and stop harassing dangerous criminals.

...you think that not announcing your preferred pronouns dozens of times a day contributes to suicide rates.

...you think that someone expressing a differing opinion is violence and that burning down entire neighborhoods is political speech.

It wasn't so bad when these were the opinions of a tiny nutjob fringe, but these viewpoints have become mainstream at an alarmingly fast rate and show no signs of letting up, even with some heavy pushback.

I was pleased to see in this survey that Canada is #1 in being LGBTQ2s etc. friendly. About time. And also pleased that 7 of the top 10 countries have women at the helm. It's been my observation that women tend to be creative and nurturing, more so than men in general. If we (humanity) have a future, I think more keys are in women's hands than men's. Yeah -- I really do. Sincerely.

Here's an article on the topic. The rankings seem to match what was stated.

    https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2022/03/21/finland-us-happiest-country/7114106001/

They say that a Gallup World poll was used. I didn't bother searching for that directly.

It's concerning to me that 8 out of the 10 least-happy countries are African nations.

It also concerns me that Finland - the happiest country - still has a weird law on the books. So weird, that the survey I read (cited in my post above) decided not to assign Finland a score for LGBTQ2s etc. friendliness:

All people intending on transgendering must first be sterilized. Only subsequent to sterilization can transgender surgery be done.
