New MPH Data Science at Minnesota

The University of Minnesota top ten ranked School of Public Health is now offering a new Master in Public Health program with an emphasis in data science. The program can be completed online depending upon the electives choosen.

At first I was concerned that they wouldn't be able to cover enough of the data science curriculum to make it a useful program, but with 43 credits, of which 25 are data science and programming and 18 credits of public health, I think this could be a really great choice for someone wanting to get into healthcare analytics. I'm learning now that most MPH programs range from 40-60 credits so now I'm wondering if there is enough Public Health curriculum to adequately prepare graduates on that front?

 

So being a Data Scientist myself and a graduate of U of Minn I can you this program will be rock solid and provide a good foundation to join the real world. There is plenty of Public Health that is covered in the core curriculum which is very extensive. I've been a student mentor for the School of Public Health for the last couple of years and the feedback I get from the vast majority are positive reviews of the curriculum.
