Let's look at the bigger picture. Is society served when someone can arm himself with an assault rifle and appoint himself guardian of someone else's property? And are we okay with that person shooting unarmed people--even if they come at him--in a situation he created?

(Were those people defending themselves against the threat of a person armed with an assault rifle and wandering the streets?)

Before we address your questions, we have to get the facts right. So let's start there:

    - He didn't shoot unarmed people. Of the four people caught on tape assaulting Rittenhouse, the one that he DIDN'T shoot was the only one who was unarmed.

    - Even if they were unarmed, that doesn't mean they didn't pose a deadly threat. Being chased by a violent mob that knocks you to the ground and beats on you while threatening to kill you IS a deadly threat.

    - There were dozens of other armed people around throughout the entire night that were not chased and beaten by the very same group of people that singled out Rittenhouse.

    Now, to address your concerns.

If by "create the situation", you mean that he used a fire extinguisher to put out a fire started by rioters, and the rioters decided that that made him a political enemy worthy of being murdered, I have absolutely no problem with what he did. Other than that it was an incredibly dangerous thing for his own safety and I would not have recommended it.

Now, should it be legal for a 17 year old to roam the streets after dark in the middle of a riot with a long gun that an adult helped him purchase? No, no it shouldn't. There's plenty of wrong there, and several laws that need to change.

The bottom line is that the prosecution could not prove beyond a reasonable doubt to the jury that he was guilty. He is a free man.

Was he a vigilante? Absolutely by the simple definition of the word. Lerner's argument that the protestors that tried to stop Kyle's killing spree were also vigilantes is also true by the simple definition of the word. Which were worse? That is a matter open to debate. Was he a hero. Generally, the left says no, the right says yes. That is a matter of opinion. Just like the three people that Kyle shot, were they heroes or not?

I think the big problem here is as Maniac Craniac says, the laws that apply to this case are broken and should be fixed. This too is a matter of opinion and open to debate.

My opinion on the people in this case is that the stupidest worst person in this case is Kyle's mother who apparently encouraged her own son to go out there with a gun at night to protect other people's property. That was foolish to put her own son in danger like that. The idiot could have easily seen her son dead, injured or put in jail for the rest of her life. Kyle was dumb to go along with her but he was only 17! She should have been smarter than that.

He's no hero, although he does have an enormous hero complex. He's extremely lucky to have stumbled into every possibile legal loophole when it came to acquiring and possessing the gun.

There has been some misinformation floating around about what role the mother played, so I'm cautious with what to believe about that. She claims that she had no idea where he was, what he was doing and that she didn't know he had a gun. If I take her at her word for it, then that's still an epic parenting failure. I'd also suspect that there would have been telltale signs that he was headed for trouble. He seems to be, as the field of psychology would term it, living his
    "personal fable".

The wanna be cop that appoints himself as a public savior, intermeddles into an easily avoidable dangerous situation, drawing a beating from strangers and shooting them in self-defense, is rife with parallels to George Zimmerman. Unlike George Zimmmerman, however, I don't think Kyle is a bad person. Just not very smart at all, and evidently delusional.

I don't know MC, you just don't seem to be at all interested in finding someone, anyone, on whom to levy heavy judgment.

It appears to the critics that the people that are supposed to enforce the law decided that the law is problematic for them.
Many who experienced these riots summer 2020 say that some how the social justice is more important than actual justice and that criminals should get away with things.
We see for a long time now the rise in violent crime across the country. We see that murders, shootings are skyrocketing.
They’re way up in Houston, they’re way up in New York, they’re way up in every major cities by population really in the country.
I don't know how accurate but I read that Portland a city not that big in population had a thousand shootings over the last year.
The people who are angry at Kyle Rittenhouse are angery because he was there in the first place they keep saying he crossed state lines with a gun.
From what I read he didn’t do that. The gun was in Wisconsin.
And why are all these rioters there? They’re allowed to burn things down and terrorize people and break a senior citizen’s jaw because he didn’t want his store to get burned to the ground.
The state didn't do the right thing. They essentially abandoned Kenosha to this, it was like a sacrifice to the rage of the anarchists.

Media has it hand in starring the pot.

    :emoji_joy: Not exactly true!

The person who helped Kyle acquire the gun bears the full extent of my scorn, but since I've already written half of the words in this thread and veered us far off of the original topic, I figured I could scale back a bit.

This is consistent with what I know about the situation, yes. You can ask further questions here, too. Should there be criminal penalty for this kind of stupidity? I think it should; there certainly can be a debate on this. Also, how much of his delusion is attributable to white privilege (not to call him "white supremacist"; I don't think evidence supports that. A lot of the very fine people soliciting money for his legal defense fund are that, and so is Tucker Carson). It is clear that a black guy trying to pull this stunt would not survive.

It looks like a parenting fail, yes. Generally 17-year-olds tend to be fairly stupid, so he gets some sort of a pass; it doesn't mean she could not have or should not have faced consequences for stupidity. He lost a Darwin Award by a hair and made himself into a symbol to reinforce worst instincts in people, on both sides (of course, the right-wing side here are literal Nazis, so not exactly equivalence here). Young people get themselves killed in stupid ways with some regularity, though - so not at all unusual).

He almost got fed to the mob by the left media, just like the business owners in all the cities of the US and by the and the ones who suppose to protect the city and him, if not the video evidence.
This was not a racial issue, the anarchists tried the race tactic but the guy shot white people so it was to hard of a case to make.
They did it all over the country. They abandoned any sort of law and order and that’s why is regardless of what ones political standing as a parent, I don’t want my kids out protesting.
I don’t want my kids out responding to the protesters. It's not safe, period.
