    I disagree.
It would have been a strong victory for Trump.

I'm not so sure of that. True his approval rating was mediocre. His polls didn't kiij that bad. I disagree with Lerner that it would have been a strong victory. He might have won though while losing the popular vote again.

2019 the economy was doing well prior to the pandemic - continuing a trend which began during the Obama administration.
US decreased oil dependency on others, ISIS finally was loosing in a major way.

    Well, to be fair....

You said that "my" side is "cooking", a statement you are actively avoiding the need to defend. Moving the goalposts and immediately playing victim is such a common troll tactic. If I didn't see you on this forum way back in 2002, I would doubt you're a real poster.

What scares me here is the fact this kind of stuff can't be just attributed to too much Russian Internet; it's everywhere. Right wingers feel justified because they think they are essentially at "war". Will it be enough to create a base of support for the actual coup in 2024? It very well could be; Trump successfully made accepting Jan 6 coup attempt a litmus test for the GOP tribe. I don't see enough people being sufficiently scared of this.

Yes, continuing Obama trend. Proving conclusively that 4lb tax cut for the wealthy did nothing for the economy and was a simple theft from the American public. Thanks for posting graphs.

Reminder: THIS above is an answer to "Trump is a criminal". Beautiful.

well, again: Trump is a criminal; he committed many crimes, from cooking the books to shield hundreds of millions from the estate taxes at the beginning of his career to ignoring the Emoluments Clause to pressuring elections officials to presiding over an insurrection. Throw in sexual assault and an alleged statutory rape. How popular or unpopular a politician Mr. Oneterm Loser happen to be - is completely irrelevant.

I suspect that since he only consumes mediocre accuracy right wing biased media that he has never really learned about all the crimes that Donald Trump has been accused of and committed.

I dislike Trump so much that I would register as a Republican just to vote in the primaries for the Republican candidate that has the best chance of beating Trump as the nominee. We need to do better than Trump. He is a despicable human being.

The first couple years of the Trump presidency, 2017 and 2018, Trump had appointed enough decent people that he was kept in check somewhat. In 2019 and 2020 he learned better how wield power, especially illegal powers and he appointed primarily sycophants. I believe that if Trump is reelected in 2024 our democracy will be in extreme jeopardy from the get go.

I doubt he will win. I mean he got more votes in 2020 than any presidential candidate in previous history, 74 million votes. There was such a huge number of people like us though that Biden got 81 million votes. A huge percentage of those votes were not so much for Biden as they were against Trump. Normally in that kind of situation, I'd be thrilled if the Republicans elected a candidate that would probably lose. In this case though, it would be such a complete disaster if he got reelected I say it is not worth taking the chance that he might win.

    2024 is to far.
We saw what a difference year can make.
I can see Nikki Haley on the ticket in 2024.

All very true, but, Trump is the clear leader of the Republican party right now. That could change perhaps if he was arrested by Georgia, New York, or the feds but who knows. That might just make his base even more determined.

    As I've said elsewhere:
    • Trump will run
    • Trump will be nominated
    • Trump will lose the popular vote
    • Trump will lose the Electoral College
    • Trump will be re-elected and will become president in January 2025

I thought that Mr. Trump wanted to keep the idea of a 2024 run alive just for attention and on a low flame, he knows if he wants to run he most likely will have no opposition in GOP.
He’ll be 78 years old in 2024, and running for president is a lot of work.
Mr Trump suggested that “a bad call from a doctor or something” could halt his plans to retake the presidency.
As Bill mentioned the legal issues, this is keeping Trump busy and aiding to decline in his business.
So far around 42 % of republican voters want him to run in 2024.
If Trump will not run then the following candidates may emerge:
Ted Cruz (Tex.), Josh Hawley (Mo.) and Marco Rubio (Fla.); governors Ron DeSantis (Fla.),
Greg Abbott (Tex.) and Kristi L. Noem (S.D.); and former Trump officials Mike Pompeo and Nikki Haley.
At this time every one of them knows they wouldn’t stand a chance with him in the race. but this may change with the time
I think Courts will not allow neither side to steal the election and as was commented on another tread even if more professional elections officials and administrators pushed out and replaced by loyalists - I don't think they will have the power to make it happen, even if some secretaries of state will be replaced.
Following Jan 6th events, Congress most likely will pass some kind of elections reform.
Corts and Americans from all sides Republicans and Democrats will defend the American Democracy.

Nope won't happen, Republicans are standing very firm in the way of any such thing.

I would hope but all evidence says that the Republicans won't lift a finger. Even after January 6 many voted to overturn the 2020 election. The courts may not even have any recourse but to let it happen. As described by Rich it would all be legal, nothing for the courts to overrule. The sad truth is that we do not really have a democracy for the presidential elections. Instead we have an electoral college.

Are you being sarcastic or am I missing something? How will he lose the Electoral College and be re-elected?

The first two, unlikely, but possible. If so, the next two almost certainly. If so, the last one, no chance.

Rich explained how it could legally happen. Trump is currently trying to set up exactly the scenario that Rich explained in the opening post of the Predictions thread.

The basic problem is two fold. First, Trump and many supporting him don't care about democracy. Second, the presidential election is not really a democratic process, it is instead a weird mix of a strange outdated set of laws making up the Electoral College.

It's happened twice before. Imagine the likelihood of it happening if the candidate (and his campaign) made it their focus, and they in turn were abetted by myriad state officials. If it goes to the House to decide, Trump wins.

I missed the scenario Rich shared. Thank you!
