Have you ever seen what a CRT text book looks like? I have some difficulty understanding what could be in a whole class. I mean the basic concept seems very simple. Perhaps most of the class is going over different institutions, laws and policy type stuff in more detail?

Is there an actual class just on the theory? If so, I would have to think it was largely about applications and implications.

Searching Proquest's Dissertations and Theses Global, I find 136 dissertations with "critical race theory" in the title. That doesn't strike me as very many given the age of the theory. Most of them seem to be applying CRT to various social situations.

I'm trying to understand how an obscure and seldom-applied scholarly theory can possibly pose such a threat. (Hint: it doesn't.)

I did find both my Union dissertation and my Leicester thesis. I guess it truly IS "global"!

Looking on Amazon books, there's a few books on it but the two I looked at more closely were less than a couple hundred pages. One of the articles I linked to, interviewed a professor that taught CRT but they didn't explicitly say it was it's own class, it could just be a topic in a more general class, like some kind of race relations class or something.

The Republican party just seems to love to attack minorities as I've mentioned before. One of the reasons that Trump is so popular because he is really good at that kind of stuff.

I think I will stop posting on this tread as well.

I took a class last year about racism in America. There was a lot of discussion of CRT and the racism of the past + how it influences modern life. But it was one of those free courses that didn't seem all that well put together, which was unfortunate.

That makes lots of sense. Thanks

The entire movement has descended into White supremacy and White grievance. It is the reaction of a cornered minority who cannot adapt to change.

    Clearly.

What I find troubling is how easy it is for people to confuse this minority's concern for a norm in this country. I mean, here is what "CRT" finger pointing tries to distract from:
What are these "very fine people" chanting? "Jews will not replace us". Then there's this guy:

He is perhaps the most popular media person on the Right, save perhaps for that guy who starred in "The Apprentice" back in the day (Drumpf?). What is he feeding his viewers? This:
I don't want to point fingers at anyone (OK, I'm kidding myself here; of course I do), but some folks who are literally new people, new voting Jews from the Third World flog conspiracy theories to play defense for THAT team. And I wish this was an uncommon occurrence; Russian-language papers like "Nash Texas" and groups I still belong to like "Ukrainians in Toronto" have hoards of Conservatives; not to the extent of Mr. Carson here (because there's moderation and Facebook community standards), but still...

I just came across the rather obvious thought that a lot of racism is about belonging, being accepted in the in-group - which would be a powerful draw for immigrants who think they can pass for said in-group. And THIS is what they feel it takes to belong to the in-group. Is CRT (which is all about systemic and legal racism that does not depend on people actually being racist) painting what's in fact too rosy picture of the US?

You probably do not see yourself as a vatnik here. The beauty of this form of brainwashing is that you don't have to accept full breadth of their goals to carry water for them. The right combination of fear and lies will do.

Leave it to the Republicans to take a theory, CRT, that removes racism from people and blames institutions and policies for racist outcomes to turn it around and falsely blame Democrats for essentially being racist. If it wasn't so disgusting I would have to marvel at the devious genius.

This is the part that puzzles me, too. CRT effectively says that you can have a group of people within a system and none might be racists, yet their is still racism within the system. This is because how the system in question was first designed and run--and continues to discriminate long after anyone desires to discriminate.

It lets individuals off the hook while also allowing us to address this racism.

But perhaps many do not want to be taken off the hook. Perhaps instead they want to simultaneously own and deny their feelings on race. At any rate, CRT could be quite liberating for them. Instead, they've chosen to be angry at something they haven't even bothered to understand, simply because a few talking heads--in the business of misleading them--say so.

Yes, like you said, the Republican base is ignorant on this topic as well as others, 2020 election Big Lie, gay marriage destroying our social structure, transgender bathroom use, Qanon, etc. etc. They think they understand. All that they really understand is the lies and conspiracy theories told them by the unreliable media sources that they use. That is the key difference between the Republican base and the Democratic base. The Democratic base in general gets their news from far more reliable media sources, at least in general. Of course, over the past few years having a leader that is a pathological liar has only widened this ignorance gap.

At least he could have provided some definition. Otherwise, I'm not bothered by his response. When elected, I have no intention of banning any subject of conversation in our institutions of learning. Virginians, write-in: CHARLES FOUT for governor.
