I want to call myself "doctor," but I don't want to do a properly accredited degree.
I want all that learning, and the title doesn't matter to me. (But I want it anyway.)
    Yadda yadda yadda.

There is no circling such squares. Better to say, "I want the prestige of a PhD without actually going and getting one, and I hope no one finds me out." At least it is logically cogent.

I see UoPeople (RA candidate) and HAU ass essentially equal. PCIE is not in the same league.

It is weird, yes, but it is exactly how WES Canada evaluates DEAC degree. "Equivalent to a degree from Canadian non-recognized institution". Search this board to see how I know.

Well, with the above combined with his status update and new avatar, it looks like we've lost TB as he feels he's been persecuted.

Sorry to see him go :-(

On this forum, you need to be thick skinned and have a broad back to survive.

    Well.

I'm still not sure if he was completely serious, a genius, just trolling, deeply disturbed, an simpleton, a mythomaniac, nothing of these, all of these, a combination of all these things... however, he was an original.

    Best regards,

I think he's sincerely trying to navigate a challenging world, and I hope he got something positive out of participating here.

Nope.. haha! At least not to my knowledge. The picture was doctored by a doctor (me). Here's the original pic.

I agree. I hope he got something positive out of this place. I genuinely wanted to assist him to navigate the confusing world of Euro-American education/employment. But I also think that he was just looking for people to affirm that he was making the right choice(s) even if they weren't actually the best choices.

I think he was a match with the personalities on this forum. I saw his posts on Reddit and he was being downvoted and laughed at by many there for bringing up ENEB, UofPeople, etc. This forum is way more accepting of those schools than the Reddit MBA and graduate school forums, which only discuss Ivy and Top 15 schools and MBB salaries. Over here, people may disagree, but there is still common courtesy and no trolling. Perhaps it's because we have more Canadians posting here LOL?

    Pfffft. Hush, lol :)

Reddit is a cesspool when it comes to higher education, or maybe that's not fair to say because it may still be evolving in that area. Nevertheless, they are stuck in 2001 where all nationally accredited schools are bad and no one on earth will take the credits (was never true, but much more of an issue back then), all for-profit schools are bad, if it's not a name brand school it's trash, if it's online it's almost certainly trash. DI went through similar growing pains as it evolved over the years, so perhaps in time Reddit higher education forums will evolve, too.

Part of the issue is that while it feels like you're talking to people all over the world and with a variety of experiences, Reddit skews American, young, white, male, IT worker and with that they bring their obvious biases against NA and online schools, because the majority of them attended 4-year brick and mortar state schools. If they've never studied online, or with an NA institution, they don't have a clue. In fact, you'll see threads on Quantic or University of Phoenix call them diploma mills because they don't even understand the basics of accreditation.

I try to keep this in mind when I'm on Reddit.

Remember, a "degree mill" is any school less prestigious, however slightly, than the one you attended. ;)

    My philosophical take on this:

Most of those posters on Reddit's mba forums (who go to T15 schools) eventually end up as big bosses/managers/directors in major/good companies. If those are the ideas they already have in mind when thinking of UofPeople etc., then it makes it harder as someone with an alternative background to be hired or rise the ranks in those good companies. Obviously they won't blatantly say it in the real world, but those ex-Reddit MBA posters might be unconsciously thinking "degree mill" while looking at resumes.

Same with the reddit undergrad (A2C) and grad forums. Those old Reddit biases might suddenly come up when they meet someone.

    Basically, perception sometimes becomes reality.

Nowadays, when you do a search engine search for a university, you usually see reddit posts. And if your school is called out as a "degree mill" by Redditors, it is hard to escape that label. Funny thing is, Reddit is probably just as influential to prospective students as any accreditor - they are like a crowd-sourced accreditation body LOL.

If I were a university (or heck any organization for that matter) I would take seriously what they say about me on Reddit. That's a website whose content and posters have been impacting the world recently.

Speaking of which, I haven't seen Kizmet post in some time after he got into an argument in one of the posts. What happened to him?
