Never heard of "Marymound California University" before, I only knew Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California.
More schools will merge or close. We have too many, and online education makes it difficult for small schools to compete.
Agreed. I wonder how much financial benefit they're really going to get out of this. I suppose they'll need fewer administrators, but with two campuses that are nowhere near each other, the faculty requirements won't change much. (Well, until they cut programs, but they could have done that separately.)
Whoa I actually work for Saint Leo and this is the first I am hearing of this. I guess I need to check my emails!
What happens re: accreditation in a case like this? Do they keep the east coast accreditation, or adopt the west coast, or both?
Outside of some back office operations and senior administrative positions, it will be really interesting how they find significant cost savings. Arguably, their marketing costs may actually increase. Would presume any online courses would have redundancies, but would also presume that as a Catholic Universities they would be predominately emphasizing in-person courses. Shrugs.
Well, it's a merger. They will become one university. So, I'm gonna assume that SACSCOC will be the retained accreditation. Marymount Cali will most likely become a campus of Saint Leo.
St. Leo University expands to California, plans to build nationwide system of Catholic colleges If you ask someone to name a Catholic university, they probably won’t say St. Leo University. But, its president, Jeff Senese, has plans to expand the University and take St. Leo to Hollywood. "By the way, we’re going to call it St. Leo University Los Angeles Marymount campus," says Senese. https://www-fox13news-com.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/www.fox13news.com/news/st-leo-university-expands-to-california-plans-to-build-nationwide-system-of-catholic-colleges.amp
