I checked this morning. I don't know how he does it, but Joe Biden is still the president.

I keep hoping for the day that Trump fades into obscurity. I can’t stand him. And this goes back way before he was a Republican.

There are many reasons to dislike the man. New ones popping up everyday with each new indictment and tell all book saying how he wanted the military to kill peaceful protestors. "Oh, Mr. President, it would be illegal for us to kill Americans like that." Trump, well just shot them in the leg or something.

Oh, I don't know. His ongoing presence is a source of political frustration and fear on the part of national and state level GOP politicians. That has a certain entertainment value, don't you think? It's not like he will ever be President again.

I'm not convinced of that. His popularity is huge for a former president with eligibility. His base is particularly agitated over the liberalization and diversity of America. At the federal level they're clogging up progress and at the state level they're not only suppressing voting, they're actually making it possible to overturn election results they don't like. Finally, there's the persistence of foreign interference and domestic indifference to it.

The only thing different this time is that (a) The Former Guy lost in 2020 and (b) his performance was a huge reason why. But I don't see any reason to exclude the possibility of his nomination or his election.

I cling to the hope that Mary Trump is correct. He will never take the chance of losing another election. His ego wouldn't survive.

Regarding his ego surviving, it seems that it is no longer surviving now so I'm not sure what that means? Is an ego surviving when it exists under a rock? If he does run then I'm crawling under a rock myself!

Nominated perhaps. Elected? Well anything is possible I suppose.

Haven’t been reading much of this thread lately... but wanted to say cheers to Learner! Throughout all of this razzing, you’ve kept it civil and kept on inspite of... :D

My guess is that he'll run again. It's also my guess that he will be nominated.

If he seeks the nomination, I'm convinced he will get the nomination even if he is under indictment at the time.

I think the "GOP is Neo-Fascist" thread was too much for Lerner. He seems to be taking a break.

Trumpism is neo-fascist might be a bit more accurate but Trump is the leader of the party. Hence the GOP is neo-fascist. Plus the title of that thread was based on a rant from a Republican.

Nope. Joe Biden is STILL president. What is taking Q so long?

Now Rich, Ex-President Trump is claiming that he will be reinstated as President in August. It is not August yet.

If what you're saying is that it should take some time in between Q making his move and Donald being reinstated, then you may just be underestimating the power of the great Q.

:) Maybe quoting Eco was a bit much. Umberto Eco is the author of a few well-received alt-history fiction novels with esoteric themes. For some reason, these novels were a huge hit in Russia; Eco was canonized as thinking man's idol, an unrivalled intellectual giant. Using his writing to argue with someone steeped in 1990+ Russian culture might be too heavy a cudgel. Even though, funny enough, today's late-stage Putinist Russia is full-on fascist, an example Trump tries to emulate in many ways.

    I liked that!

I agree with your assessment that Trumpism earns at least a somewhat on 14 out of 14. This seven are right on though.

    1. Disagreement is treason. “The critical spirit makes distinctions, and to distinguish is a sign of modernism. In modern culture the scientific community praises disagreement as a way to improve knowledge.”
    2. Fear of difference. “The first appeal of a fascist or prematurely fascist movement is an appeal against the intruders. Thus Ur-Fascism is racist by definition.”
    3. Appeal to social frustration. “One of the most typical features of the historical fascism was the appeal to a frustrated middle class, a class suffering from an economic crisis or feelings of political humiliation, and frightened by the pressure of lower social groups.”
    4. The obsession with a plot. “Thus at the root of the Ur-Fascist psychology there is the obsession with a plot, possibly an international one. The followers must feel besieged.”
    5. The enemy is both strong and weak. “By a continuous shifting of rhetorical focus, the enemies are at the same time too strong and too weak.”
    6. Contempt for the weak. “Elitism is a typical aspect of any reactionary ideology.
    7. Machismo and weaponry. “Machismo implies both disdain for women and intolerance and condemnation of nonstandard sexual habits, from chastity to homosexuality.”
