American International Theism University claiming authorization by the State of Florida, Department of Education! This school is misleading its website visitors.

Word-by-word ( American International Theism University is authorized by the State of Florida Department of Education Commission on Independent Education, Section 1005.06(1)(f), to award Associate, Bachelor, Master, and Doctorate Degrees.).

Section 1005.06(1)(f) in Florida is a religious exemption and it's not an AUTHORIZATION!!!

Owner EHAB E SHAMY = EHAB MCEO EL SHAMY (two different names)

    Accredited by ASIC

    Are they doing something illegal?

The State of Florida is allowing them to exist and grant degrees.

That's not saying much. Florida grants religious exemption to any outfit that claims to be religious and claims to be a school, even if it is obviously neither.

They are authorized to award degrees but they are unaccredited as far as CHEA/DOE-recognized accreditors. They are likely misleading people with the writing on their accreditation page which includes "ASIC is affiliated with The European Distance and E-Learning Network and the European Network for Quality Assurance. We are also members of the American-based CHEA International Quality Group and UK Visas & Immigration in the United Kingdom. These are all respectable international organizations that are renowned by employers and educators worldwide. Therefore, you have nothing to worry about when you invest in your education with us. American International Theism University is committed to offering all our students a top-level education that prepares them for a career in the real world."

    Exempted NOT authorized.

From DOE website: "Religious institutions that meet the requirements found in Section 1005.06(1)(f), Florida Statutes and Rule 6E-5.001, Florida Administrative Code are not under the jurisdiction or purview of the Commission for Independent Education and are not required to obtain licensure."

They are exempt from the requirement to obtain licensure, so they are de facto authorized to award degrees.

This response from the Florida Department of Education (Exemption indicates that the school is not subject to the requirements of these statutes. Exemption does not constitute a review of the institution or its programs and should not be considered approval, recognition, or recommendation of the school.)

Also, they are exempted as RELIGIOUS entity NOT SECULAR DEGREE GRANTING UNIVERSITY
They are offering secular degree programs which require state approval:

So, I am not sure how you consider them authorized?

I consider them authorized because they are not prohibited by law from awarding degrees. I'm not sure what status you think authorization implies. They can legally award degrees. They are authorized to do so.

Whether they are outside of the bounds of the exempt classification is a different story and they may be running into issues there.

The reason I was surprised of you authenticating their job. Because you have attacked another school previously for them being exempted "authorized" to award degree. This makes me question the conflict happening with many threads related to other exempted schools! Why would you give this school credibility and not others? Just curious.

    Oh well, again, then:

Ehab El Shamy, who is/was Breyer State University's Chief Executive Officer launched the American International Theology University, now American International Theism University. The original AITU was in ASIC's International directory (candidacy accreditation), as was Dr El Shamy's American Learning Center. Dr El Shamy is/was also Senior Vice President for International Programs at the university that sued a few of us.

I'm not giving this school credibility (at least, that wasn't my intent.) Some states are very loose with their regulations so schools can be authorized to award degrees there that, if headquartered elsewhere they wouldn't be. "Can award degrees without being sued but lacks accreditation" is not a good place for a school to be unless they are newly opened and actively pursuing accreditation.

I don't trust this school at all, but they probably won't get sued just yet.

    from Wikiitionary

    1. (transitive) To grant (someone) the permission or power necessary to do (something).
The General Assembly authorized the Council to take up the matter.
    2. (transitive) To permit (something), to sanction or consent to (something).
      The judge authorized the wiretapping.
It seems a bit of a stretch to say that the state of Florida has authorized them to grant degrees when in fact they just don't prohibit them from offering degrees. I'm not a lawyer though?

They must be reading this thread or FL DOE has contacted them after I spoke with them. This entity now removed the wording "authorized" from the website and also, they have removed the two MBA programs
