I have a B.S. in Liberal Arts (concentration in Managment and History) from Excelsior using the information from this forum (non traditional). I am a controls engineer but would like to substitute teach in Michigan during my retirement. Maybe even be a regular teacher. Not sure. I have heard of a certification program called teachers of tomorrow. Also considering a Masters degree from WGU in education. What you all think? Would like to teach science, computers, social studies, and business. Don't really have a preference for a particular age group.

Not sure where you are from in Michigan, I would look into Mott Community College, Oakland Community College or Lansing Community College teaching using your Controls Experience. You might find a Masters isn’t needed.

HS CTE programs are frequently able to hire experienced professions without the traditional hurdles a normal teacher makes. I manage CTE/Dual Enrollment programs at several high schools and most of my faculty have similar backgrounds to yourself. It’s a rewarding endeavor!

Oakland Community College has an Auburn Hills campus across the street from the Chrysler/FCA/Stellaris HQ. They have a computer integrated mfg classes and an MTEC Bldg that would fit well with a Control Eng.

What would you like to know? For what it's worth, might be worth clarifying how significant (time-wise) of a retirement career you're interested in. Are you really wanting FT or would Adjunct life be of more interest?

We are financially independent, just want to stay busy. Adjunct teaching may be ok
