I'm at beautiful Liberty University for a campus tour before my degree presentation ceremony later. It's such an honor to be here!!

So jealous you're on campus! I went to my first college graduation, I didn't go to my Bachelor's graduation (Athabasca is a 70 miles north of Edmonton and I didn't have any way of getting there.) I don't think I'll go to my Master's graduation, but then I'd like go for my PhD graduation. (Once I get into one!)

I have gone to all of mine and I’ll most certainly go to my Duke University graduation. Still contemplating if I want to pursue a PhD or a DBA. On the fence. Lol

I have gone to all of mine except Don Bosco. Hope to visit someday. I think you eventually will pursue a doctorate because you've been toying with the idea for a long time now. I believe in the will of God. Had I not dropped out of ACE's Ed.D. program in 2016 to pursue my second master's degree at Lamar, I wouldn't have attended Liberty because the program wasn't offered until Fall 2018. So, the moral of the story is that your "perfect" program is perhaps being developed. Focus on your Fuqua degree and the spirit will lead you to your next pursuit.

Well, I can understand that you had no way of getting there. Otherwise, I was about to say 70 miles isn't that far. I drove 300+ miles to Liberty :)

Do you ever read those old posts where you were kicking around changing schools, or the first post in this thread where you mention the schools you withdrew from and how you ended up at Liberty, or even the posts where people tried to knock Liberty down a notch? Because reading those now that you've graduated puts a big smile on my face. You made it to the finish line AND you get a TT position! It's funny to read about how the "PhD in CJ at Liberty [is] a check-the-box degree that will be slightly better than getting one from a for-profit school" when you look at what you've actually achieved: Earned your PhD, 1 publication, 2 more on the way (at least), and a TT-professorship.

    It all fell into place.

The degree did exactly what it was supposed to do...get a TT position at an unranked school. There are far more unranked schools than ranked schools, so getting a job is not an issue as I have stated many, many times. No one ever said you couldn't publish while being a Liberty student. A TT position is a TT position; the pay from school to school is not drastically different in the CJ field.

    Congrats, Chris.

I don't know if I'd go as far as saying a Ph.D. is supposed to get an individual a TT position. Only about 1/3 of Ph.D. holders will ever get a TT position. Of course, this varies among disciplines - some lower, some higher.

That's awesome....I might have once given you a hard time about Liberty but glad you stuck it out and made history. Congrats on teaching at UVI as your future will only continue to get brighter. Best of luck.

    Congrats indeed.
There is categorically nothing wrong with teaching in a "non-ranked" school. These are the vast majority of places I even applied to (had a phone interview with an HBCU; didn't go farther than that). UVI looks like a great place to work, I would have accepted an offer from there in a heartbeat (well... right out of grad school, I would. Not sure about relocating to VI with a family). In fact, my Hispanic-serving institution is not too different.

BTW, good job contributing to profile of Helms School of Government. At the moment, they have 100% placement rate in TT positions :).

They must be doing something right, and YOU are definitely playing it right. Having publications in the pipeline is exactly what a newly-minted Doc has to do; kudos for doing it in a distance program while holding a job. I know how hard that is.
