Republicans still believe Trump's election loss was the result of a rigged election

    Yes of course! LOL

I'm particularly concerned about this lie because it was used to trigger the insurrection on January 6. It is still being pushed by many on the right, especially Donald Trump. It very easily could cause more riots. For example if Trump decided it was in his self interest to rally his "troops" again. The folks on the right fringe are threatening public officials. The FBI has warned us that the threats from the far right are real. Just the simple fact so many people believe that democracy has been compromised corrupts the fiber of our system of government, the confidence in our country. It is insidious.

    Appreciate the link. Thank you!

Any coverage on how the count itself is going? Details on the recount procedures itself? How this could possibly (in any way shape or form) legally lead to a change in administration?

Of course not. The vote that matters is the electoral vote (which is how Trump and Bush II each became President despite losing popular vote.) The time frame for challenging the electors passed when the vote was completed in Congress. This whole exercise is a pointless sop to conspiracy theorists.

Does anyone really think these Trump won conspiracy people will accept the inevitable results showing no significant voter fraud? No, they will just chalk it up to the Deep State.

I appreciate that. There are ignorant folks that don't understand though. Just like there were ignorant folks that thought that the purely ceremonial congressional electoral vote confirmation of the Biden win on January 6 could legally go any other way than it did. That doesn't mean though that folks pushing the big lie about widespread election fraud don't have some theories. The only thing I can possibly think of is that they are thinking that they can go to the SCOTUS who will reinstate Trump as the President. That would never happen but people unwilling to accept reality might be believing it? I don't know though, perhaps they haven't even thought that far ahead. I hate thinking that people are just plain stupid though.

Ignorance is difficult to understand when it is willful.

Assuming the recounts discover then correct the election miscount and prove that Trump won in a landslide, perhaps you can tell us then how Trump will be legally returned to power?

At this point, I really have to ask SpoonyNix where he sees anything ironic about any of this.

I have a wild speculation that he may not be aware of the December 8 safe harbor date for the electoral college?

After the December 8, 2020 date the election results were pretty much baked in.
    quote:
That’s because election results that have been certified by the states are now considered conclusive, and by law those states’ Electoral College votes must be counted by Congress. By late Monday, every state but Hawaii had certified its results, and Mr. Biden had secured more than the 270 electoral votes needed to become president.
    ...
What are the practical implications of the deadline?
It essentially acts as a guarantee that Congress must count the Electoral College votes of states that have certified their elections and signed off on a slate of electors.

In states that have certified their results, the deadline should also help insulate against further legal challenges in state courts.

The AZ and possibly GA recount at this point may have other purposes.
I don't want to use what ifs but lets say AZ recount:
    1. finds no irregularities
    2. finds significant irregularities
In case 1 - may finally put the issue to rest. Satisfy due process etc.
In case 2 it may grant "ammunition" for future elections. Even if left media will not report or under report the results.
Challenges to the recount results, spin and discreditation nation wide and abroad by etc.
There are other possible actions, who knows?

    Sounds very reasonable to me.

I assume that this is not what is being said by the right wing media though (e.g., Fox, Newsmax, and OAN)?

If you haven't noticed, Spoonynix usually does not seem very interested in participating in the discussions. (Here in the political forum at least.) Instead his comments are frequently more about the people that are participating in the discussion.

I have to call double standard.

I will get back to this when I am done writing this paper I'm working on. :emoji_thumbsup:

Liz Cheney makes an excellent contribution to this thread in her speech today. This is some of what she said.

    quote:
"Millions of Americans have been misled by the former president. They hear his words but not the truth," the Wyoming Republican said Tuesday evening in a scathing six-minute speech.
    ...
"Today, we face a threat America has never seen before. A former president who provoked a violent attack on this Capitol, in an effort to steal the election, has resumed his aggressive effort to convince Americans that the election was stolen from him," she said Tuesday. "He risks inciting further violence. Millions of Americans have been misled by the former president, they have heard only his words, but not the truth. As he continues to undermine our democratic process, sowing seeds of doubt about whether democracy really works at all."
    ...
"As the party of Reagan, Republicans have championed democracy, won the Cold War, and defeated the Soviet communists. Today, America is on the cusp of another Cold War, this time with communist China," she said. "Attacks against our democratic process and the rule of law empower our adversaries and feed communist propaganda that American democracy is a failure. We must speak the truth, our election was not stolen, and America has not failed."
    end quotes

Well 2022 is not that far.
Is she aware of what the left did when Trump was elected.
So many attempts to unseat Trump - seemed lite that was the only thing that left was occupied with.
If she has old school conservative values is yet to see.
I condemn the Jan 6th actions but she needs to check a little further back about the things she is critisising.
