Some more random thoughts on a blustery Spring day...when all is said and done and the principal actors have passed on, I imagine someone will write an opera about Donald Trump. Why not? A meteoric, even miraculous political rise, vast quantities of hubris, the shattering of the cosmic (political) order, then a fall from grace and a desperate gamble that in the end fails. Stuff of Shakespeare!
Oohhhh, complete with Russian hookers pissing on a bed. And, of course, the genocidal murder of 500,000 of his own countrymen! Leftists audiences will complain the production is too watered down. Also, the name "Trump" will not be allowed (ya know, hate crime and all). Perhaps "Drumpf" will be allowed?
But the project will require a shift in mindset for just about everyone...Trump as a tragic figure? Wow. Mind bending. Yet he fits the classic mold.
The New York critics will doubtless pan the effort as "a feeble expression called "Melanoma" or something like that." Oh well. What do critics know anyway?
Opera? maybe act one? Followed by the act 2 maybe? That is yet to be played out before it will be written. King maker may appoint the lead actor of the future season of the saga. George Lucas is working on the "Rerun of the T-Empire"
Three acts. What makes Trump a genuinely tragic figure in the dramatic sense is that the very seeds of his downfall are clearly visible in the beginning. His personal inflexibility brought him success then failure and he was essentially incapable of avoiding his fate.
