    TEKMAN Semper Fi!

I am a Marine Veteran, so I am a bit bias. Whenever I hear "Quantico," it is automatically in my head is the Marine Corps Headquarters, Officer Candidate School...which I attended in January 2008.

What is the general perception of Quantic school of business and technology, here on DegreeInfo?
Especially regarding their MBA for early career applicants.
    Might be interested in applying.
Don't expect to be elected, but it's free.

My take: When they started as Smart.ly Institute they claimed to be an all-new take on MBA. Now they're one of almost-innumerable NA (in the old sense) MBAs and as such, don't qualify for programmatic accreditation - AACSB, ACBSP etc. - so what have they really got to distinguish themselves in a Universe of myriad lower-end MBA programs?
Somebody please tell me. Please, Please, Please, in the words of Mr. James Brown.

My take: I think this school is trying to look more "different" than such a school can really be. But heck, I've been wrong before. And it might pay to remember - you may get in free (possibly) - but even so, the investment of time will be considerable and that is worth plenty. Spend it wisely. Consider all your options and how the return might vary.

My opinion? They are bad. Extremely bad. Abysmally bad. We are talking about a completely new level of badness. Why? Because I say so. It is a totally objective take be me, a businessman with 20 years of professional experience. It is totally objective and has nothing, I tell you, NOTHING to do with the fact that they have DARED to REJECT me!!!!11111oneoneone

:) :) Funny! I appreciate your total objectivity, Mac. How dare they? :)

They're more conducive to mobile learning, I suppose? If your only device is a mobile device that may be a big deal. If not... I don't know, man.

Mobile devices - phones etc. alone - for grad degrees? Why put yourself through that? A full-size laptop is available cheaply. Mine (HP) cost $250 new. Better than squinting at a spreadsheet on your phone. Some schools will give you a laptop with your program. JoshD showed us the one he got. But that was Duke / Fuqua... with a (justifiably) high program price tag.

In a less-developed country, I can see someone attempting a degree program that way - they probably have to. But here? No. Particularly not sole use of mobile = with any business degree - or writing-intensive degree - and not with a grad degree of any kind. Just my take.

They only admit people who have "high-profile" in Linkedin especially. They want to up their image and then soon they will able to sell the program at a high price. Nice business model tbh.

I prefer the WordQuant university if you want a tuition-free grad degree.

WorldQuant? Indeed. Not yet accredited but on the DEAC list, being considered. I'm hoping the best for them. Different program, though. MSc in Financial Engineering. That's a specialty - not a generic MBA. Glad to see it. I think this is a VERY serious school - and I hope they can keep their tuition-free model after accreditation. Their non-degree continuing ed. module in Data Science looks first-class. A big attraction these days - and it looks to me like they can do a VERY good job. Their writeup presses all the right buttons. (Maybe they should teach copywriting too - or maybe they just hired someone really good. If they did -- good plan! It worked. :) )

My Master’s program sent me an iPad and iPencil as part of the tuition.

Considering the particular subject of your Master's - that was a pretty good choice. Great in schools!

I guess it's my problem - someone says "mobile device" - I think phone. Mine is not a "smart" phone - and the screen is tiny. Like I say - wouldn't want to do spreadsheets on a phone. IPads are different - but they're kind of a closed-shop when it comes to coding languages, so for me ...I dunno.

Blowaway graphics though. I saw a painting David Hockney made totally on an IPad. For the right person, they can be an artist's dream. Forget about my kvetching and enjoy your IPad!

That could work brilliantly. It could also implode as they could over time build a perceived high standard that their education and real-world value doesn't match up to. All it takes is one high profile person to make a deal of it, and a blowup involving a high profile individual means a much bigger blowup than the norm, even more thanks to the fast pace and long reach of media and social media today.

    Time will tell.

I actually made a post on my blog about their mobile platform, I really like it. As someone who struggles to complete MOOC's, I had no trouble completing their Business Foundations intro course. It's an app. You can do about 80% of the program on the app itself. The last 20% are a mid-way and a capstone project that you must have a computer for, and then exams which are proctored.[IMG]

For microeconomics and statistics, you'll still need a calculator and scratch paper nearby because they will make you do the calculations. Based on this minimal introduction I would call it a "mobile-first" MBA with the understanding that other schools don't have an app with the curriculum in it that records your progress. Others may disagree.

I'm glad they got NA, but there's still a legion of people (often, those who got rejected) who maintain it's "unaccredited" because they misunderstand the RA/NA distinction or they call any MBA from an online program that lacks ACBSP unaccredited. That can limit the utility of a degree, you don't want someone to Google it and be immediately confronted with people making false claims.

As came up on the ENEB thread - "a degree with an explanation" is going to make it harder to use in the workplace. Or, from the world of politics, "If you're explaining you're losing."

I already found two typos and a misplaced comma as I skimmed (!) Apparently I was asleep at the switch when I made this post.

Indeed it was. I clearly stated that, later in the post:
"In a less-developed country, I can see someone attempting a degree program that way (phone etc.) ..."

Yes, I live in a developed country. Yes, I can afford a laptop. Yes, I realize that it is not the same elsewhere. Where did I go wrong, here? Or are you snipping to make a "word collage," like William Burroughs? Takes a while, to develop any style.

I've been posting on forums in my sleep for 20 years. It's all a single, universal bad dream, Dustin. We're all in it and we'll all wake up someday ... I hope.

I'm so extremely nervous on whether they will admit me or not. The decision will only be shared with me in 2 months from now.
I will tell myself already that admission is not going to happen in order to avoid disappointment.
Still, I'm soooo languishing over this programme, you can't imagine how badly I want this MBA.
