There's a difference between using the title and INSISTING OTHERS do it. And that's the crux of the issue, I believe.

    Otherwise, we utterly agree.

Out of curiosity, Richard, when you say '' lying about having a college degree '', what college degree did Melania claim to hold?
How did they find out she didn't hold that one?

It's fairly common to do background vetting of prominent people. A professor who says he taught her stated she did not complete her degree, despite her claiming it in her official bio which was later corrected: https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2016-election/melania-trump-s-bio-now-says-she-paused-her-studies-n685181

This sites provides more details, but it looks like University of Ljubljana was never named by her directly but instead by friends (and the above-professor): https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2020/feb/20/blog-posting/claim-about-melania-trump-touting-false-credential/

There's no "smoking gun" where she says "I attended this school and completed my degree there" and that school comes out and says she didn't.

I wouldn't hold my breath for a response from Rich - he just pulled one of his not-too-infrequent sudden resignations from DegreeInfo, but he hid in in an obscure thread. You'll find it here: What If Trump.... | DegreeInfo.

I've no horse in this race, but exactly how much smoke has to come from that gun, Dustin?

    (a) Is there some University, other than University of Ljubljana that anyone anywhere has said Mrs. Trump attended? (Including Melania herself, of course.)
    (b) Did she not claim a Bachelor's degree in Architecture - in her sworn deposition, cited in the link above?
    (c) U of Ljubljana has been clear on the fact that Melania attended for one year - in an architecture program.

    And here's from CBS news:

"Melania Trump didn’t receive a college degree in design and architecture at the university in Ljubljana, Slovenia, which her biography in the Republican National Convention program claims she had obtained. (Note: I read that bio. The claim was made. You can read it too, but I lost the link - sorry. -J.)
CBS News has checked the official public records of the university, and Melania Trump is not listed as having graduated from there with a degree." (They checked under Knavs, Knauss etc. of course. And Melanija, etc. That was mentioned.)

Maybe she earned it at Trump University. :) Enough for me. Not for you? Just asking...

I should have stated more clearly that she definitely, 100%, did not graduate. What I meant was more, that there was no single easy source I could point to that would satisfy TeacherBelgium's question about her studies. I thought the deposition she did where she first claimed to have a degree would have included the university, but it doesn't. It's more about piecing together the 3 or 4 sources, where in one she says she has an architecture degree in a deposition. In the second, her friends say she dropped out. In the third, her White House bio states she graduated from university but doesn't say the major or school. In the fourth, professors at that school state she dropped out.

I think it's a case of absence of alternatives. We know one University Melania DID attend - what she studied - and for how long (one year). The timeline puts her in Milan, pursuing her modeling career, the following year. We know of no other tertiary school. If she really DID graduate, I think we'd know where from. We know it wasn't U. of Ljubljana. Nobody on her side, or any side has devised an alternate scenario. That's sufficient to convince me there isn't one. And why I (jokingly) suggested Trump University.

Anyway, none of what I think will ever come back to bite Mrs. Trump - or anyone else, hopefully. I have no malice against her - and I don't think I can be held to the same standards as a court trial, either. She's not on trial for any aspect of this and never will be. If she were, her husband would immediately pardon her, I'm sure.

I'm just doing my best - with limited evidence - to figure out what really happened. And no "angel" has come forth to convince me otherwise. Others are perfectly free to be unconvinced, if that's what their logic tells them. My take: often, blanks are not filled in because there's nothing there to fill them with.

The confusion seems to be "Which degree is Mrs. Trump being untruthful about - the one she didn't earn from Ljubljana - or some other one we can't find?"

If pressed, she (or anyone in a similar situation) could always buy a degree from a mill, already back-dated and if ever challenged, claim she worked hard for it and either it wasn't a mill, or she didn't know it was. But she'll NEVER EVER have to.... not in a million years. No reason she should have to. I'm letting it go...

When it came time to submit my defended dissertation to the UF Graduate School Editorial Office for publishing, about 30 minutes after my submission, I realized I accidently submitted a previous version that still had some typos in it.

I called up the office after I realized my mistake and asked if I could resubmit the correct one. Their response was ,"Your chair already signed off on it, so no, you can't submit a new version. Don't worry about it, just about all dissertations have typos in them anyway."

Still irks me to this day, but there was nothing I could do about it.
