Shhh. Don't tell him, but I think he knows, Steve - perhaps he's just in denial. An affliction brought on by um - Doctoral Envy - "Jill Biden has one and he doesn't." But of course, back in his day, you had to know Greek and Latin, candidates fainted, yada yada yada. A good story, maybe. A valid point - no. Let's move along folks. Hic nil credibilis. Nothing credible here.

It would only seem "fraudulent" if one didn't know/understand/accept that the honorific of "Doctor" has various legitimate applications. The most "fraudulent" usage in my opinion is when it is awarded to clergy, as it appears to be an attempt to imbue a clerical position with the standards of academia. That said, if I consider those clerical pursuits to be akin to any other philosophical field, I can still understand awarding the title to those that have spent years immersed in the study of that particular field of thought. This article just sounds like a petty point of bullying meant to somehow undermine the Biden's before they are even in the office. :-(

"Misogynistic views." Wear that one with pride, Mr. Epstein. Maybe you never earned a doctorate but hey, you earned that. :p

That is the most pathetic whine I have seen in print.

Unless there is something more that I couldn't see in the story due to not having a paid WSJ subscription, I don't see his view as anything close to misogyny, it was just disrespectful and unnecessary. Northwestern releasing a statement like that is totally irresponsible. They are doing nothing but further fueling the constant mischaracterization of any criticism directed at a woman as "misogyny". Men too have been criticized for using the title of Doctor when they are not MDs for a long time, we all know this, and that criticism has come from men and women. Was it misandry when women criticized men over this same thing?

This is just misguided thinking from a person with an axe to grind, nothing more.

There's an IMHO valid observation that women are frequent target if precisely this sort of disrespect. Hence, a strong suspicion of misogynic intent behind this piece. After all, I strongly doubt Mr. Epstein bothered to publish a similar diatribe against any other public figure with a non-MD doctorate (Dr. Phil?).

I personally started to pick on Levicoff (undoubtedly a Dr.) after his attacks on a holder of a PhD in Leadership. You can think anything you want about one field or another, but a doc is a doc. Interestingly, even Steve's overblown criticism wouldn't apply to Dr. Biden; she is in fact in Higher Ed Leadership, and holds a terminal degree in her field forheavenssake.

Nasty’s back, in honor of Dr. Jill Biden! For womxn with a degree, unafraid to be ‘nasty”. Go getters, glass-ceiling breakers, forging your own path.

Mugs are $20 plus shipping. $3 of every purchase goes to the Biden/Harris campaign Georgia runoffs (split between Stacey Abrams’ organization and ActBlue).

That's ironic, since Dr. Biden has an EdD, not a PhD. But whatever makes money, I suppose....

I think you missed the part where it says "You can customize with MA, MFA, JD, MD… whatever you want."

Hi Chris, Lots of Criminal Justice education! You in law enforcement? I have a niece that loved detective shows growing up. So much so that she got her bachelors in Criminal Justice. After graduation she got hired on with the local police department. She got hired on fulfilling her life long dream. She went to her first day of firearm instruction training then quit the force. She loves going out target practicing, so that wasn't it. Her father and I think they told her she had to be ready to shot someone or it would endanger herself and others. She's such a sweet kind soul that she wasn't sure she could do it. She's been working at an insurance company ever since but still won't talk about her short career in criminal justice.

Well, it's a little more broad than that, but I appreciate the distinction you're drawing about it being a professional doctorate.

I'd say it's rarely a degree to "teach Education", although there are Ed faculty members with a EdD. It's mostly a degree for education practitioners, working in various admin roles. I'd say most students are typically K-12 admins.
My wife had just been hired by my university's Office of Research and Innovation; her manager and several other colleagues have an EdD in Leadership. I'm trying to coax her into using her tuition waivers to go after the same degree ;).

I've been told that Ed.D is a preferred degree for school principals and school district top admins, directors.
