100% agree with Wes Kemp the course instructor/Executive in Residence is a class act! Rare in Higher Ed.

Did you email him? Talk to him? How many times. I never called/talked to him but emailed him 20+ times. I regret not calling him. He was always a class act.

Always just email. I wonder if there's some kind of feedback mechanism I can use to tell the university what a great representative of them he is.

    Hello!

Why not post a link to this discussion on their facebook site (did something similar with my favorite tutor)?

    Best regards,
    Mac Juli

I just gave Wes Kemp a "5" in "Rate My Professors." Looks like 4 other students also love him and also gave him a top score.

    Dear Students,

FYI, the University of Arkansas is migrating its Learning Management System, BlackBoard, to BlackBoard Ultra. This represents a major upgrade that will require considerable time. This conversion will begin on December 23, 2020 and conclude by January 1, 2021. During this time, you will not be able to access the lessons associated with your pursuit of a Certificate for the Study of Capitalism. To reduce the conversion time, we’ll be doing some prep work on Thursday, November 12, 2020 wherein you may experience some brief interruptions if you’re logged into a lesson. Please mark your calendars so you plan around and not be surprised by these changes. Let me know if you have questions.

    All the Best,

    Wes

How serious are these certificates if I may ask?
I know that some certificates in the US take one year and that they can earn you '' 20% more'' than with a high school diploma only, but it's unclear to me if they mean these types of certificates with it or another type.
Do people generally mention certificates like this one on their CV in the US or is it more a programme that you take because it interests you and less because you want to impress an employer?

I list these types of certificates under Professional Development. I've done a "Data Analyst with Python" certificate and this one. They can be used for career purposes (like the Data Analyst one), or for personal interest (like this capitalism one.) In this case, it was more for personal knowledge.

Oh, I am sure that this "capitalism certificate" may serve well to someone's career if you look for the right job. Well, probably not if you want to get a job as press officer of the Communist Party of the US if there is even one, but still..!

All Degrees and Certificates are 100% situational and tailored to the job you are looking for. Most of my Degrees and Certs I leave off. If I lived in Arkansas because it's a big SEC sports university, I would put it on.

Like Dustin said I did this for personal reasons.

If only I could find other certificates related to Economics that I could toss in my Professional Development section. Been eyeing the Mises Master's, even if it is unaccredited...

Neat! If it didn't require letters of recommendation (which are likely to invite some scrutiny from my likely referees) I would be all over that.

Agreed! I've thought that if I ever ended up in politics or in a think-tank, it might be helpful to demonstrate that I've got an understanding of the logistics of capitalism as part of establishing my economic bona fides, alongside leading an economic development agency and other things.

You mean this one? https://mises.org/edu. Interesting, but I have difficulties to take the Austrian School of ecomonics seriously. But I must admit that the not very well balanced article on RationalWiki may have spoilt me! - On edX, however, there are some good certificate courses related to Economics.

Yes, if you believe the RationalWiki entry gives an accurate description of praxeology, you have been spoilt. Additionally, if one is a fan of Krugman then just stick to Krugman and shalom aleichem.

That said, one can be an Austrian economist and at the same time find traditional economic models useful. I would love to pursue the Mises grad degree, but in looking at the things I want to do over the next 5 years, I just don't see it happening.

No, as I said myself that the article was not well balanced. However, I think that at least some of the criticism there is justified.
