Well, those pressures got China a hell of an Army, if that's any consideration. 2.7 million men, so I'm reliably told. That should keep Kim Jong-Un in line. Poor fella. He's only got a million or so... :( But it's hard to feel sorry for that guy. Under any circumstances,

I am sure that I don't like it. Have a look at India. In 2011, there was - by selective abortion - 914 girls for 1000 boys. And I think we all know that too many unmarried young men can cause a lot of trouble (take "youth bulge" as a catchword)...

Well, there are at least two medical ways of handling that, too - one more drastic than the other. But I'm not recommending either any more than sex selection. I believe that one (involuntary sterilization) was routinely done to teenagers and young adults of both genders in many US mental institutions and prisons from back in the 20s to quite recently, in some cases. I see in the following article that involuntary sterilization has been performed on incarcerated women in California as recently as 2010. https://www.pbs.org/independentlens/blog/unwanted-sterilization-and-eugenics-programs-in-the-united-states/

Some awful people have been in charge of such facilities, if they can be so called. A shameful history. Absolutely horrifying.

IIRC, Adolf Hitler was said to have got wind of these sterilizations and remarked to the effect that America was finally getting wise and doing something about "improving the race." - i.e. preventing the birth of non-white and/or non-Anglo children. Isn't it just so nice to have been praised by the greatest monster of his time? And one of the greatest of all time. Indeed, quite a distinction. :(

Keep in mind that it was quite normal at this time. Winston Churchill was a huge advocate of eugenics. In Sweden, that was called eugenics was practised until 1976. While Hitler was a monster (the greatest of his time? Perhaps, but Stalin was not really pleasant, either), this point of view was widely shared in this time.

Some may use a duality view of Positive and negative or evil Eugenics.
But they will need to define the positive.
Some would say to make sure children are born without lets say deformities, may be seen as positive Eugenics?
So it all depends on how it is practiced, what are the goals etc.
And renaming it to something that is not associated with evil.

My point exactly. It should not have been normal at any time - but it was. And debating who was worse -Stalin or Hitler, is fruitless. There are differences in methods - In Hitler's camps, people were tortured, experimented on and gassed. Stalin's policies starved millions - and he had many others "liquidated." Ask (or read) old-school Ukrainians about suffering under Stalin. Or ask their surviving children and grandchildren.

Hitler's minions killed about 6 million Jews directly ... plus a large number (250-400K) of other people he was afraid of -- Roma (Gypsies) and Gays, mainly. Roma have a word for their own Holocaust - porraimos. Stalin mainly exiled Jews to a miserable remote place in Siberia and forbade them any Hebrew books - Scriptures etc. Like choosing between Devil 1 and Devil 2.

Bill Burr has a bit about how Stalin gets short changed in the "most evil" department.

I don't know much about American popular culture, but I am eager to learn. - Do you have a link (or an explanation or something)?

I'm not as eager to learn as you - except about music and writing, but here he is, on Hitler and Stalin. Makes his living as a comedian. Never heard of him before today. He has other stuff on YouTube - some about these same two POS.
