Got notification on my secondary email:

Focusing on Bottega’s unique branding in post-secondary education and New Charter University’s global reach, Bottega, LLC is rebranding New Charter to Bottega University.

So, the university has changed it names for the second time.
The university was originally known as Andrew Jackson University (AJU) -> NCU -> Bottega

I remember when it was AJU. Bogetta is a shitty name, as was New Charter.

Bogetta means "the studio of a master artist, in which lesser artists, apprentices, or students learn by participating in the work".

Small point: It's bottega, not bogetta. And spaghetti, not spatteghi. Yes that meaning is an older one - per Google at least, but not quite the original meaning of the root word. Today, the word is used in Italian to denote a high-end shop - just like "boutique" in French, which is from the same root, meaning "storehouse." "Bodega" shares the same root, I believe. Check your Italian Dictionary and you'll likely find "bottega" translated as "shop."

    From Google:

    "Apothecaries, Bodegas, and Boutiques
Apothecary, bodega, and boutique may not look very similar, but they are all related both in meaning and in origin. Each of these words can be traced back to a Latin word for “storehouse” (apotheca), and each one refers in English to a retail establishment of some sort."

Yup: 'Bottega" is also from Latin apothēca, from Ancient Greek ἀποθήκη (apothḗkē, “repository”). Chris says it's a "sh!**y" name. Maybe so, but at least they didn't name it τουαλέτα - that's modern Greek for "toilet."

Wonder if even the folks who run Bottega know the whole story of the name they chose?

Yeah, at least when it comes to naming, the people in that circle are just LOST.

Not a great name. Yet, still better than "New Charter University."

I agree! Maybe University of Zion or Zion University sounds better?

What could possibly go wrong? Reminds me of when George Mason University decided to name their law school after the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, and for about two hours the new name was "Antonin Scalia School of Law" until someone told them what the acronym sounded like and they quietly revised the announcement to be "Antonin Scalia Law School".

I would be put off attending a school based on the name itself, and Bottega University is not winning any awards (I'm not even sure how you pronounce it.) That might be vain, but it will be on my resume forever!
