For the price of $15,000 currently you can't beat it and if accreditation is what you are looking for you can complete this degree and transfer the credits over to Liberty University towards a doctoral program as they accept 50% transfer credits and also TRACS credits. The Healthcare Administration credits could fit in a number of their doctoral programs. Just mentioning this if anyone wants to go for a second doctorate in the future with "Better accreditation" and is considered a "real doctorate".

I wouldn't be surprised if VUL pursues "better accreditation" in the future. So if one wants their tuition to go towards a brighter future at VUL, an HBCU and 140 year old University, then in my opinion consider their DHA. I for one, would not be ashamed of holding a doctorate from VUL. Good info on acceptance of TRACS credits by Liberty.

Liberty has a second doctorate option (Ph.D. in Advanced Educational Studies). It is not to remedy accreditation "deficiencies" because a regionally accredited Ed.D. is required for admissions. However, IMO, despite Liberty's description of the degree's purpose, it is meant to give people with Ed.D. an opportunity to earn the "gold standard" doctorate (Ph.D.).

Some of the programs that Liberty University offers that you can get into with a VUL DHA degree would be like DBA, DPA, and Ed.D. Some courses from the program fit into those doctoral degrees but mainly DBA from what I have seen.

Not sure if VUL will pursue SACS accrediation anytime soon but I definately agree with your other points. In this new era of social justice I see this opportunity to give back while fulfilling my own personal goals.

Also as far as professional doctorate the need for research/and or project I agree the practicums at VUL more than satisfiy that category. Professional doctorates aren't the same as PhDs as the focus should be more on application rather than theory. I could see my DSP at Tridert (5 chapter paper) was getting derailed partially by COVID which is why I jumped at this as I rather focus on building leadership skills instead. Also I think many master thesis projects (especially if you attended a top 50 research university) are just as intense as some of the doctoral thesis programs.

Also there are EdD completion programs out there if you looking to add to your resume and decided to do research. Here's one at Trident https://www.trident.edu/doctoral/edd-educational-leadership/about-trident-edd-degree-completion-program/

Considering how old they are, I'd be surprised if they didn't used to have SACS but couldn't maintain it for financial reasons. Lamentably, it's happened to more than one HBCU.

If so, TRACS would have been an accessible option to let them keep their doors open, but it would suggest it's unlikely they'll be able to go back to SACS anytime soon since most schools' finances are getting shakier, not sturdier.

If I offended anyone who is pursuing or is about to pursue the DHA at VUL, accept my apology. While I don't think this specific degree can be considered equivalent in scope and recognition to the Ph.D. (per ED), it is still a doctorate. Everyone has a unique reason(s) for pursuing a doctorate. For some people, a doctorate without a dissertation or capstone (applied, original work) is sufficient to meet their personal or professional goals.

No offense to me as I actually somewhat agree with your early take that most view a doctorate without research or a project as not complete. In this case the DHA program at VUL appears to be evolving as the practicums again serve as more an applied project (action research with case study) as oppose to long drawn out dissertation.

The larger question to ponder is whether applied professional doctorate going forward really need to have deep academic research as oppose to real life practicums or projects. If you look at most DPT or DNP programs the scholarly research is light in comparsion to say most DBA programs. Its highly unlikely that I'll ever do any scholarly writing once I'm done but rather maybe position paper or a white paper. Really the PhD is the gold standard for research and others are at a lower tier below depending upon the circulum of program.

That's not necessarily the case for DBA and EdD programs. Or the Dakota State DSc, and a few other research doctorates with unusual nomenclature.

The former Dakota State D.Sc. The Ph.D. replaced its D.Sc. some time ago.

I'm not so sure. Steve. A poster reported receiving Grad Cert. evaluation from an un-named NACES accreditor, early in the Masters Propio thread - but he said that was for a different propio degree - not ENEB Isabel 1. Another poster showed an evaluation by ECE - that was an ENEB Isabel 1 master propio degree - and was evaluated equivalent to a Bachelor's.

    Here's that one: https://www.degreeinfo.com/index.php?attachments/ece-evaluation-png.692/

It's like "Let's Make a Deal." 3 doors - Bachelor's, Grad Cert or Master's. All depends on how your evaluator - Dr. Wayne Brady - feels that day. A total crapshoot. But at least it's worth something. Making it work for 36 grad units toward the total needed for this DHA program would be a monumental advantage. I'd say it's a possibility - but it's not a sure thing. Would likely help a strong candidate with other factors indicating likely success.

That is, it would be of most help to people who are the least likely to need help. That's usually the way it goes...

Of course I'm speaking in general... there are always exceptions including top DBA, DHS, EdD and other doctorate programs that more than compare in depth to PhDs. A Harvard DBA (which they no longer offer) is vastly superior to most PhDs earned at lower level programs (that's a different discussion for a different day). Again most PhD typically are longer in duration and more deeper in academic research with a resulting disseration that provides new light on a given topic.

Professional doctorates like the DHA at VUL are short programs aim at getting the most ROI for the degree for the average Joe like me. I'm not fooled into thinking this program is equivalent to the DHA offered by the Medical University of South Carolina either. Honestly this program is probably not as rigorous as many MHA programs like the top one offered at the University of Minnesota or this PhD that I once considered doing as well (I'm a Gopher and admit to being bit biased). But again that's not the point as this is a check the box exercise for many looking for a decent ROI while also trying to balance the work / life seesaw that gotten even crazier under COVID-19.

A lot of professional doctorates, e.g., DBAs, Ed.Ds, DPAs, etc., seem to be favoring a capstone over a dissertation. Liberty University, for example, changed their DBA, DPA, and School of Education Ed.D. to capstone. Students who were enrolled before the change had the option to stay in the dissertation program or switch. The School of Counseling and the School of Divinity continue to require a dissertation for their Ed.Ds. Some prefer having a dissertation requirement even though they are pursuing a professional doctorate. I think, over time, a dissertation will only be required for Ph.Ds, D.Sc., JSD, and other research doctorates.

    VUL
    "DHA 808 Research Practicum
Prepares the student for dissertation research through faculty-supervised research experiences. Focuses on one or more stages of the research process, such as developing a question, literature review, design and method, IRB, grant writing, subject recruitment, instrumentation, measurement, data collection, data analysis, interpretation of results, and/or dissemination of results."

Without seeing the syllabus, from the course description, I wouldn't be at all surprised if it concludes with a capstone/scholarly paper and/or project! I do not see any actual requirement for producing a dissertation.
